I feel like the well is too iconic, it immediately makes me think of Balin's tomb (which is presumably not where the beast is). Big rocks on bases are much more neutral, I'd opt for a smaller rock though, to accentuate the bulk of the beast.

Thank you all for the comments. Thank you even more for the help.

@kidterminal, they will have BN shields

@ringofgyes, it is from Balin's tomb.

It seems that we have some very divided opions on what works better, though I think we can safely say that the rock is too big. I am inclined to take the advice of people that I consider to be experts.

Firstly, the chainmail, ukfreddybear (an expert), since you support that I watched it, I will try something different on the other 5 or 6 mailskirts.

Back onto the Beast, since an expert at making scenery on a base (among others - DMS) and a very good scenery maker (OMW) say well, I will consider. I think I will remove the base around the well though.

Would it be too much if I had a WoMT dying over the well, and another WoMT and an Orc lying dead on the base, as well as the well and a few small stones?

Oh and, I've made a little progress on the BNs so I'll post pics later.

Thanks all.

Here's a blurry pic of some of my new batch of Morgul Knights. The Marshal has no mask, but the others do;

Another picture of the ft Marshal, and my ft banner bearer;

I've added drooping sleeves to some of the BNs, all that's left to complete the transformation is the shields;

And these MKs have been converted into my second batch of Ghostly Riders (after the RoR);

Also, this question, I would like to know;

In answer to your second question with regards to the great beast base. The well idea is a good one i think as like i said before it is low enough not to distract the eye away from the model itself. In my way of thinking the well will be the focal point of the base so it doesn't matter what else you add to the base, ( as long as it s lower and smaller in diameter than the well itself), when looking at the base your eye will be first of all drawn to the well and will explore outover from there so you could add dead Womt quite easily and it would not be too much at all, it would in fact help the well to bled into its surroundings. In my opinion it would look rather good!

I think it is really difficult to put too much on a base for a model that size as long as what your adding is relatively low to the round which what your suggesting is. Take the Mumak base for instance tho it doen't have a main larger feature it is extremely busy, looks great and doesnt distract you away from the model itself.

Go for it Gothmog, sounds like its going to be great!!!!

Oh nice black numenoreans by the way!! :yay:

Thanks Bilbo.

I have finished the Black Numenoreans, (except for the painting and basing of course), and I've also made further progress with the Black Guards (see below). Here are some shots of the BNs:

Here are the original Black Guard now with cloaks. I may start over those ones again - the mail that is, but I will do one first to see if it is fixed. If it's better I'll do the others, if its the same or worse, I will leave them:

Image

And then we have the next 5 Black Guards, as you may be able to tell, the mail is done better this time, and this is because of the two things I did differently, one of which is a irect result of ukfreddybear, which was t use a blunt pick rather than a sharp one, and to do the holes in vertica lines, like a chain. The other is that this morning I placed a blob of green stuff between easch of their legs, and then this afternoon I did the chainmail over that, so it has a stable platform;

Thanks again for all helpan comments.

I'm looking forward to seeing these progress.

Is there any way of making the photos any clearer?

Does your camera have a macro function (little flower looking icon)? If not, then I suggest taking the photos slightly further away because as it stands, it seems your camera is having trouble focussing in on something so close.

The chainmail looks better on these guys than your previous attempt. Kudos to you for having a go at the new technique. 8)

Thank very much.

The camera is on the macro setting. It is a little clearer if I was to put my camera on a book or other flat object, but I was rushing, as i had lots of other stuff to do.

Really like the BNs and black guards. It's an awesome force altogether! Great work on the sculpting too. I really need to do more sculpting and will use your work as an inspiration.

Thank you. I'm not exactly the type to generate inspiration really. Anyway, I've finished the Black Guards and I've started some Mordor Uruk-hai but its too dark to take pics now.

I think one of the main reasons why even the best photos i take - the ones that look perfect on my computer, still come out rubbish may be photobucket, but I'm not paying to upgrade it so this'll have to do. Anyway, here are some of my finished Black Guards;

And then here are some shots of my converted Mordor Uruk-hai, also finished. Do you think the paper ones were worth it by the way, or are they worse than the green stuff ones?

Thanks very much, I hope I don't ruin them. :)

And I've still got more things to do before painting unfortunately, some more Uruks, Morgul stalkers, the Great Beast, 3 Trolls, 48 Morannon Orcs and some Mordor Orcs. They won't all be converted but some will.

Good luck with your next secret project by the way DMS 8)

I use photobucket all the time with no problems at all.

Thank you, it probably isn't photobucket then. I'm not sure if I can replicate the above photography as it was accidental. From now on I'll take photos with the models in the cenre of my bed then, as that's what I did, and it has the best light, coupled with patience in taking them, but the only reason I was being patient was because the camera's batteries were starting to die so... :roll:

I've missed quite a bit of your updates so job well done on everything. 8) I too think those are much clearer photos.
I don't think you'll mess them up. I'm sure your painting will do them justice. ;)

These pictures are very good. I like these conversions a lot. The shields are perfect. I think you need to rework the chain mail a bit. You've improved your technique, but I think with some practice you can achieve much better results.
