I thought it was time to start up a log of the progress I make on my 'little' army of Easterlings and Black Numenoreans.

First up we have the completed Easterling cavalry along with a Dragon Priest and Knight:

Next up a couple of WIP Trolls, they're only on their first layer so a bit to go with these:

This fellow is something I picked up on Ebay, nice to paint but I now need to build his mode of transport  :

And finally the rest of the army, all base coated and waiting to go:

Nicely painted Easterlings :yay: (The Proest is no Dragon Priest by the way), good luck the W-K and the horde.

What happened to the cool spikes on the Mordor Troll's helmet? he looks less aggressive and less like he did in the film now.

Thanks for all the comments, I really like how they turned out for a simple paint scheme.

Whatevier - Grond is pretty much the right size you can just about see him in the back of the first picture, big fella
Wah Wing - Yup 8) the brown box is all Easterling infantry and the white box is Morgul Knight for the back two rows, Black Numenoreans the next three rows (made up of the metal models and plastic Army of the Dead), then the front two rows are command for the Easterlings and BN, there are also some Ringwraiths and Sauron in there as well.
Gothmog - Both Trolls are second hand and there was nothing left of the spikes (that Troll was about and inch thick in super glue and paint, so he was sat in Dettol for two months) so I decided to fill in the gaps, he doesn't look too bad in reality.

OCD, lol

Here's a quick update on the Trolls, you'll have to forgive the picture as it was taken on my archaic phone:

Just the bases left to finish on them and then on to the infantry!

Indeed! What is it they say about great minds...

The only thing I'm not sure on is the use of static grass, I'm going for a Morgul Vale feel to my bases (bleak and dead) but haven't found any grass that would fit, if any were needed in the first place. Anyone got some thoughts on this?

The Trolls are now completed, I've had to dig out our old camera which isn't the best but is better than the camera phone though they do look overly shiny which might be to do with the flash as they don't look like that to the naked eye (they have the same finish as the Easterlings).

Enough with the jabbering now and on to the pictures:

Very nice trolls. 8)
 What you could do for the bases (to make it look bleak and dead) is to find Scorched Grass.
You can kind of see it in this picture where I tried to represent grass that went through a fire. Hence the name.

Scorched Grass

It's dark brown in colour though so it might be what you're looking for. If not look for clumps of grass that are bleach colour. :? Just some ideas.

Time for a little update, I've started work on the Easterling infantry just around a hundred more to do (what have I got myself in for). Also I'm getting to grips with taking photos so here they are:
