Sting looks nice. That version of Sam is my favorite hobbit model they've ever made. Something cool about that pan.

Gj on the Pipin!

Try mixing red with orange or yellow next time (though i think blood red is bright enough for most cases), think it'll work better 8)

Well Merry is now finished, which completes the four hobbits for this Fellowship :D I'm delighted with how they turned out :) Now I'm really looking forward to painting up the other five, and doing their display base, which, hopefully if I keep up this level of painting, will look great :D

Anyway, the individual shots of Merry aren't coming out great for some reason, when I edit it the colours go a bit weird :x But here's a couple of shots of all four :)

Comments welcomed, thanks :)

I've always disliked these sculpts, but you've done an excellent job on each of them!!! :)

Thanks very much! :-D

Here's some actual WIP shots of Gimli :)

Image

Image

His face and the chainmail are done :) I didn't use my usual method for chainmail (drybrush over black) as I didn't think the chainmail was sculpted well enough for the drybrushing to have a decent effect, so instead I painted it chainmail, then heavily washed with badab black, and highlighted some bits with chainmail again :)

Next I'm going to do the red, and I'm not sure how I'm going to highlight it :? As I said after I did Pippin's cloak, I didn't like how the highlights turned out, they were too pink :x I had to wash it with Baal red to redden some of the pink, but I don't like having a wash as the last layer of paint because they are kinda shiny :x The red colours I have are Mechrite Red, Scab Red and Blood Red. I also have Blazing Orange, and the usual colours I mix with a base colour to highlight, Skull white or Bleached Bone. Any help? :)

Well, it is my birthday today, and the first new models are here! :D

Image

Two blisters of GotGC, two blisters of GotFC and Rumil :D Ordered last thursday, picked up in store yesterday, and all metal :) I bought the GotGC and Rumil myself, my sister got me the GotFC (after a very obvious hint from myself  )

Here they are taken out of the blisters, but nothing done to them

All have the usual amount of flash, and Rumil's sword looks like it had a hole in it when casted which was subsequently filled with metal, but a thin layer of liquid green stuff will cover that :) I'm so glad I got these in metal rather than finecast, as the pikes were easily bent back straight (and they'll stay there 8) )

I must say, they are lovely models, the Galadhrim Guard especially, really looking forward to painting them :D But for the minute, the blisters have been stapled back closed, and have gone into what I now dub my 'backlog box' Hoping to fill that up with a good few more models soon :D

And as you may have noticed in the first picture, the red on Gimli is done, I'll try post a pic of that, but otherwise I'm away for the weekend, but I'll keep the updates coming when I'm back! :)

Thanks for all the comments guys 8)

Happy birthday! I'm looking forward to see more of your work, especially on your new miniatures when you get to them.

Thanks guys! :D

I've progressed on Gimli, almost done, unfortunately haven't gotten round to taking any pictures, but I'll get some of him finished after the weekend :)

Rumil and the GotGC almost complete one of my 500pt Forces of Good armies, I just need the stormcaller from the Galadhrim commanders box. The rest of the models from that box will be used for my Haldir's Elves army, which will be themed at Helm's Deep :) I have this all planned out, to fully utilise my purchases :) And additionally I hope to purchase the Goblin commanders, two boxes of wild wargs, two cave trolls and the Ambush at Amon Hen boxed set (before it goes OOP  ). This will mean, in my collection so far, I would have two different 500pt Misty Mountains armies, The Denizens of Moria and The Dwellers Below, two different 500pt Elven armies, Haldir's Elves and the Defenders of Lothlorien, as well as the Fellowship (twice :D ), a lot of hero models that will be stand alone display pieces, and other bits that are the beginnings of armies (e.g. Rohan warriors, GotFC, Uruks etc.)

All in all, I have twenty two different armies planned (mainly 500pt LOME, some go to 750), which (sometime loooong in the future  ) will be lovingly painted and modeled on display boards :) I just love this hobby :D

I'm also concentrating on acquiring all the models I want before I do any gameboards or terrain or anything like that, as I can't imagine LOTR has much more than 5 years left  So I'm not too worried about collecting a massive backlog

Nice work on everything. 8)
It's obviously too late but for red you could basecoat it in red then highlight it with Dark Flesh. Or was it Dark Flesh basecoat, highlight with red.
I think it's the DF then Red. Oh well. :-D Good luck on your armies and what not. 8)

I'm back! :-D Been away for a few days, but now for some updates :) I've been a bit slow on the painting side, as I recently got a new guitar, and Batman Arkham City (unbelievable game!), but Gimli is finished :-D Also, I just made a light box for photos, so these are from that. The first two are unedited, just resized and cropped, the second two have been 'auto-fixed' using photobucket. Which do you think are better?

Well, that's five down, four to go! Thanks everyone for the comments 8)

Here's a quick update, this came from ebay today :-D

Image

The OOP armoured Haldir! I've always wanted this model, as all the pictures of it painted look amazing! I'm really looking forward to painting it, the detail and overall sculpting are excellent, real crisp :yay: He's going to be part of my galadhrim force, themed at Helm's Deep :)

Also, here's a real quick Legolas update, I've basecoated the flesh, done the eyes, and given the flesh a wash, hopefully I'll get to highlight it later :)
