I think you will change your opinion of what belongs in middle Earth when you read the 12 volumes of the History of middle earth. I saw some things on the list from the First and Second Age back ground. May be flash backs in the movie
I agree with that, I read some of it but still...the LOTR battle game is set in the third age mainly, so IMO the figures should stick with that broad context.

the gap between LOTR and WHF is narrowing quickly.

I have all 8 additions of WHFB. I will strongly disagree. I really think that discussion belongs on the OldHammer Fourm.
I meant that in an exaggerated way and only concerning the miniatures. I tried out the WHFB and know that the game system is totally different. But set alone the size and the degree of realism of the newer releases for LOTR were far away from the first fellowship releases. Miniatures tend to become bigger and less realistic in terms of proportions and detail as they aren't based on specific pictures from the movies anymore. The first miniatures all had to be approved by the actors themselves and were loaded with tons of filigrane details. They all had sculpted eyeballs as well as nicely modelled face, while now mostly there are just a couple of rough details in a face. By no means I want to say that the WHFB Miniatures are bad, but I really love the realism of the LOTR miniatures.
PS: Sorry for the bad language in the previous post, I mean no harm and hope that I haven't offended anyone!
