that's a very nice paint scheme MMS.. I really like the shield colour, though I think the bright shield colour is a bit overwhelming both on the shield and the cloth.. on the other hand a darker or even a different tone on the cloth is gonna put more colours on the mini which I don't know how it will turn out.. Just my opinion though, I could be wrong, I'm not great with colours.. Anyway, whatever you choose I'm sure you gonna do a stunning paintjob on it
I've been thinking about this and I kinda agree with you. I tried dark fleshtone a dark orange/red which in theory would work with the light blue and also a much darker blue. In both cases the colour did work but there was a lack of balance on the model. Basically I need to tie the light blue on the shield to part of the rest of the model otherwise it's not going to look right. And so I'll go back to the original colour for the cloth.
What I'm thinking is that it's not an issue of the colours being the same but rather I painted the colour the same way on two quite different materials. I need to somehow distinguish between the different textures. I have an idea on how to achieve this which if it works well should look pretty darn cool.
On the plus side the metallics are getting a lot easier with practice. One thing I've discovered is that gloss medium is much, much better than water for thinning the paints. The flakes don't separate any way near as much and the gloss add to the shine.
