I plan on building a part of lake town for mine - here's my design concepts - although it won't be as detailed as I imagine it, but . The shaded are on the first piece of paper show where the water and shows an aerial view of how I think Lake Town looks, and the second picture shows the design I'll be using for my houses, I won't be making them very elaborate so that I can use them for gaming pieces.
The two little squares on the bridge are guard huts, with the rest of the little squares represent "houses", and the large box in the middle is the market place, with the Master's hall at the top, and a store room on the left and right. The remainder of the sketch is walkways to connect everything together, I think I'll make them wide enough for 3 or 4 models.

I would think converting that model into something more suitable would be harder than creating something from scratch.

If you're making these buildings scale this is going to be a lot bigger than 9''x9'' . . . one of the buildings might be suitable. Was that the plan?

To make it into something nice, yes, but it's the only paintable (and thus Golden) woods I've been able to find. If anyone has a better alternative, please say so!

As with many of you, I was pinked last week but not by choice. I have decided to use my powers and imagination to exact revenge (and perhaps to help a good cause along the way. Below you will see a picture of a Furby that I have sculpted and have molded.

Image

Now that I have set the scene here is my quest; DMS and his partner have turned us pink. This Terrain Challenge is DMS' first big venture as a Ringwraith. I think we should turn this into a Furby Wonderland Scenic Challenge. I am pledging my scenic skills and my vote to the person that creates the best Furby playground (the pinker, the fru-fruier the better). Moreover, if you donate 5 pounds or more to the chariety drive on this website, then I will send you a casting of the furby that I have sculpted. If you do 10 pounds I will hand paint it for you. There is no limit to how often I will do this . . . if you want 4 furbies donate 20 pounds. I will pay shipping and handling as well as all material costs (they will be cast in two part resin). Lets turn this thread and challenge into DMS' worst nightmare, exact some revenge, and help a good cause all at the same time.

*If you have already donated please send me a PM and let me know and I will send your Furbies on their merry little way. Honor code will be respected. Wave 1 of revenge commence!

I think I'll just be making them 3" by 3" because otherwise Lake Town won't be very big

Very nice idea. Now if only I had the money to donate... Let's see what I can scrape together.

I gave some thought but...sorry...I just can't go furby. There are some things that are just so ingrained in my soul as 'wrong' and they are on the list.

I don't know if we were supposed to post an actual "start" pic or not for this. I am collecting WIP shots but figured I'd throw up an early stage here to make it official. I actually did the rough work on 30 Sept (cut the mdf and built the basic layers to support the small hill). This past weekend I applied the surface putty and did the shaping and attached the first trees. I will be finishing most of the ground work before putting in the other tree trunks or gluing the foliage onto any of them so as to keep things out of my own way.

Image

I have two more similar pieces that are ready to follow along right behind this one, but as I've never done this before I wanted to get through one first to gather my 'lessons learned'. 8)

EDIT: re-read rules and understood no 'proof pic' required. Consider this my first WIP post. :-)

Looks like a good start on the hill. 8)
I am glad I posted a photo. The Kids might have broken the camera. Maybe it is just the cord.

I cut the base from a scrap of 3/4 or 20mm plywood scrap and sanded it to ruff shape on the belt sander. I may use some of the pine bark I collected today in stead of these I cut a few days back.

Dumb question I know, but by "Free People" you mean a terrain piece associated with either Hobbits, Dwarves or Elves? Not Men....
