If the whole bit about revealing the release just before it hits shelves is true, I just don't get it. Is that much of their business people who need he newest thing, no matter what it is and what it costs? I'll tell you one thing, I haven't bought a single Warhammer or 40K item since they adopted this form of marketing. People must like being sheep more than I thought...

Agree with above, haven't bought a new release since they implemented this, I now wait a while rather than get excited for weeks in advance.

Also, its all well and good launching it the week before release, but they do this for retailers too! So we find out about the same time as you (on a Saturday), and have to rush to place orders on the following Monday to try and get the products on for Friday to release Saturday morning. Un-needed stress they're creating, give us at least a couple more days warning!?

Still... December for the Hobbit, next White Dwarf then!

Kind of surprised they aren't bigging up LOTR in the mean time.

Oh I dont know... my 3 local GW's seem to be trying to crank up the interest, with campaigns updates and quite alot of chatter, it seems they are expecting something  .

They definitely had something in mind for 3rd November which now has vanished from the local store's schedule, so you do get the feeling that there's been a problem, and then speculation kicks in (problems with early castings? legal problems over the Radagast leak? etc)

How do you know this?

A lift from the last alliance:
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Hi

I lifted this from GW website

New products
For those of you who are Games Workshop Hobbyists, our new products pipeline is probably what
interests you most. Sadly this is not something that I can say too much about: keeping details of our
future releases secret until just before they are available to buy adds to the excitement and success of
each launch. In the last 12 months we have narrowed the disclosure window to the weekend before
release and sales of new products - and of White Dwarf which showcases the new products - have
been significantly higher as a result.
What I can say is that we will release some amazing products this year. Products that will surprise and
delight Hobbyists. We plan to do so every month, including December 2012 when we will release our
new Hobbit range to coincide with the film. And... ahh, but that would spoil the surprise. You will just
have to wait and see. You will not be disappointed.

Mark Wells, CEO of Games Workshop

Its from a press release issued July this year so is safely in the public domain

"You will not be disappointed" he [Mark Wells] says.

I beg to differ. I can 100% guarantee I will disappointed, in fact I'm already disappointed. And thats because I know the price will be so high, and that the (Finecast) quality will not justify such a high price; that I will take one look at the prices and think "Meh", then go back to playing Lord of the Rings Online. Thats how I'm getting my LotR fix these days.

Well I've broadcasted my pessimism enough on this site already. I'm not hugely excited about the new releases as well for the reasons stated in the above post, only moderetly interested. Mostly looking forward to see the new models painted by members in their WIPs, gallery, and monthly challenges. For me to get a "Fine"cast model at their original retail price, the model better be something special. Otherwise I'll just keep my eyes peeled for liquidation sales when I find them in few years time.

Well. I guess I won't be getting any new models for two years. :?
I'll just try and focus on the challenges we have going right now.

Hopefully there'll be plenty of stuff for you when you return! All the best for your trip - I hope it is very successful :)

There better be! I expect to have at least two of the three films ready for me to watch if not all three when I return. :D

Well that is your own psychological thought process of bashing GW even when they haven't done anything and are about to release a huge amount of new miniatures. I do understand some things GW are not good for the customer but what you just stated is being very pessimistic rather than realistic. At least wait for the models to come out before you judge them.

I had no expectations because I assumed the releases will be in finecast, which I will not buy.

But now I have high hopes for plastic, so I hope they don't dissappoint me.

Gotta' say I am getting excited. New models, new rule book, box set, and/or scenarios are all good in my book.

Weighing in on Finecast... My buddy has some of these new resin models. The detail is great. The features are more clear, and the edge detail is sharp. I did not see bubbles either. I got to thinking if a casting defect is there it would be easily corrected with liquid greenstuff and a file. Then once it's been undercoated, painted in multiple layers, applied washes, and finally lacquered... impossible to find.

I have dozens and dozens of metal Fallen Realms miniatures. I love the weight and feel of them... and they have been a pain to assemble. Filling gaps, filing flashing, and bending back weapons.

It's a hobby, a process, something to do once the kids are asleep. If they made it all in metal I would buy it. Since it's all going resin and plastic, I'll still buy it. It won't have that antique/classic feel. I'll get over it. It will still be better than video games.
