oh and by the way :-) "Release of The Hobbit game is scheduled for december 1st, with preorders starting November 24th. New WD should hold all the information, so I'd expect pictures around the 20th."

I might even p[ick up a WD for a change...

So, here is what I heard on The Hobbit release in december. Take with salt, allthough my source was pretty confident, and he should know.

Release of The Hobbit game is scheduled for december 1st, with preorders starting November 24th. New WD should hold all the information, so I'd expect pictures around the 20th.

The LotR tabletop game will be renamed "The Hobbit". War of the Rings stays the same (for now). This is to emphasize on the difference inbetween the two systems. I've heard rumours of a "Battle of the five armies" supplement for War of the Ring, but I would not expect this anytime sooner then the 3rd movie. Probably more an educated guess then a rumour.

The one product for the Hobbit in december (as far as I know we really only get one) is a boxed game in the lines of Dark Vengence and Island of Blood. It contains more miniatures then Dark Vengance [czyli więcej niż 48 - MM]. No definite info on the contents, but 13 dwarves, a hobbit and a wizard should be a safe bet. No words on the opponents. I'm guessing goblins and wargs, with something big the dwarves can steamroll.

The box is supposed to contain scenery.

The box also comes with a brand new rule book. It's a complete new set of rules, though they are probably based on the current rules. Though I am very excited about this, hold your horses. It's still just rumours.

For the time being, the only way to obtain the book ist the boxed set. No hardcover, allthough I'd expect that to change in the future.

Now the downside is the price is located somewhere around 100€. That would roughly put it in the same category as the current Space Marine battalion (check your regional website for price comparison)

There were hints on a limited edition of the boxed set. Worked pretty well for Dark Vengance.

Enjoy, and take it with salt, as always.

This guy from Warseer confirms the set's title is "Escape from Goblin Town".

I had a flick through the Official Movie Guide in Waterstones today and on the Radagast page there's a concept sketch of him running full pelt with one leg out in front and one leg behind, just like in the leaked sculpt. Whilst it might not convert anyone who didn't like the look of the sculpt, it at least demonstrates that GW were working from official Hobbit concept art and depicting him as PJ etc. wanted him to be. Who knows, we may see Sylvester McCoy legging it around Mirkwood in a far more energetics manner than we thought!

Also, I've been thinking about this Hobbit boxed game. If it is only the box released in December, maybe it will be a standalone game far more like Space Hulk/Dread Fleet than a full SBG expansion? Don't get me wrong, I still think it will be based on the SBG rules, but maybe it will be a complete game in a box with the SBG ruleset and no immediate crossover with SBG? Kinda similar to how they packaged/marketed the Battle of Five Armies, it was Warmaster in everything but name but never suggested any compatibility with WM.

If this is the case it would answer all those nagging questions about how the profiles will fit into the sourcebooks - ie will the Free People's book now be able to take the Dwarf company, or a new profile Radagast/Thranduil. Or will Moria armies be able to take the new goblins/wargs - After making such a big deal at the start of the year that everything you needed for each army was now in one book it would seem odd if all goblin, elf, dwarf and orc players needed another book to field the new units.

Maybe the Hobbit boxed game will be presented as "Try this, and if you love it, there's this great other game called LOTR:SBG"

Just to be clear, I strongly hope (and think) that this isn't the case and that we get some sort of sourcebook with all the new profiles/scenarios and it's just wonderfully interchangeable. I personally couldn't care less about having to have two books to accommodate the new stuff. I'm primarily just thinking through what the new rumours could mean and hoping to provoke a bit more discussion to tide us over until the leaked pics on Tues/Weds :-)

Thoughts?

Well, my first thought is that the seperate game would be really nice, but not because I want it. Because that would mean that they wouldn't be ruining the SBG rules. (If it is true that it will be adding to the SBG andthat there will be new rules overriding and changing the already fine current rules)

On the other hand, I could just see them releasing a book with all the profiles for each movie like the five books now. (though the last one might not have enough new characters for this.....So they might release one 'hobbit bad guys' book, and one 'hobbit good guys' book; though then you run into the problem of stuff in the second and third movie that won't be released in those books, so those books won't be released until the third movie is.....which is unlikely.

Just some thoughts..... :)

The rumor is LOTR:SBG is being rebranded to The Hobbit:SBG so no separate game if that's the case.

What makes the most sense to me is if they were to release three "Journeybooks" like they did with the FotR, TTT, and RotK. The books trace the journey through several linked scenarios, with any new units having profiles in the back of the book.

I was in a GW store today and there is no doubt that the Hobbit is going to be part of SBG. A little gift guide said that adventures in Middle-earth will continue in The Hobbit:SBG. (paraphrased)

New to the forums and really looking forward to the Hobbit and new boxed set. I have some of the older Lotr SBG figures and the only thing that ever bothered me was how small the plastic wood elves seemed to be and the metal ones are difficult to find. I also hope they re-release the battle of five armies...totally missed that. Huge fan of Tolkien and glad I found these forums.

Games Workshop: World of Battle

Hey folks here's a heads up:
Due to recent severe weather conditions in the North East where our White Dwarf distribution facility is, the magazine will be delayed for the next couple issues. We don't have specific information yet, but will post estimates on delivery dates once we learn more. Thank you for your patience.

Interesting, I got nothing of the kind here for the U.K - is that over in the U.S?

Welcome to the forum ranger23. It seems you joined in the right time. Just before the Hobbit minis are released! White Dwarf is due on the 24th correct? If this is the case then we should be expecting leaked photos anytime soon :D

Did anyone else notice the WD daily thing on GW.com? At the bottom it said that the preorder stuff that they announced today (or yesterday or whenever) won't be available until Dec 1st. This might mean that they'll announce the Hobbit minis next week, but we won't get them until the 8th.

It might also mean they don’t want the announcement to get lost amongst Hobbit release announcements.
