Well, this is the first time I've started working on a real army, instead of collecting lots of figures from each faction, and I chose to make a Gondor army. I wanted to know what you guys think of it?

Warband 1:
- 12 Rangers of Gondor (96 pt)
- Faramir with bow (75 pt)
Warband 2:
- 12 warriors of Minas Tirith, one with banner (109 pt)
- Captain of Minas Tirith with shield (55 pt)
Warband 3:
- Gandalf the White (220 pt)
Total: 555 points

Is this army legal, is it good enough? Does anybody have suggestions?
Thanks!

No, this army is not legal. Only one-third of your Warriors (rounded to nearest whole model) may have bows.
Also, it's not really competetive. You really need spears.
Why 555 points? Games will often be 500, 600, 750 or another not so odd number of points.
You could make an army similar to this:

-Faramir w/ heavy armour and shield
-3 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-1 Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ banner
-4 Rangers of Gondor

-Captain of Minas Tirith w/ shield
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-4 Rangers of Gondor

-Damrod
-3 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-4 Rangers of Gondor

-Beregond
-2 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-2 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-2 Rangers of Gondor

494 points, for the leftover 6 points you could get some more spears (I don't know if you are set on having Gandalf).
I didn't give Faramir a bow because he's better off with extra Defense. D7 will survive for a lot longer than D5.

Also please note that we are not allowed to post points costs for single models :)

warband1
Faramir (Heavy Armor)
6 Guards of the Fountain Court (Shield)
3 Warriors of Minas Tirith (Bow)
1 Warrior of Minas Tirith (Banner)

warband2
Captain of Minas Tirith (Horse, Lance, Shield)
4 Knighs of Minas Tirith (Shield)
7 Warriors of Minas Tirith (Shield)

warband3
Beregond
8 Warriors of Minas Tirith (Shield, Spear)
3 Warriors of Minas Tirith (Bow)
1 Warrior of Minas Tirith (Banner)

35 units,500points, 6might, 4 will, 4 fate

this is the list i use for 500 point battles with gondor. They have been pretty solid to me till now. With the proper use of the cavalry you can charge the enemy again and again and with 2 attacks on each knight you can kill many of the core enemy units.
GotFC provide a good shieldwall if positioned good with the WoMT spears and swords.
Many people would drop the banner but to me it has proven a necessity to win more fights than the enemy and thus kill more units than him because im outnumbered most of the times(you can have up to 50 models at these points)

If you drop the guards and the banner you can have more models and be less outnumbered.
anyway i hope this helps!:)

Personally Gandalf is great but doesn't belong in such a small army. Ditch faramir leading the rangers and replace him with madrill or damrod. He is not worth his points shooting all the time with his rangers.

Oops, didn't know that.

What about this:

Boromir of the White Tower w/ shield
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-4 Rangers of Gondor

-Captain of Minas Tirith w/ shield
-1 Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ banner
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-7 Rangers of Gondor

-Mounted Faramir w/ heavy armour and shield
-6 knights of Minas Tirith

Total: 602 points

Is it legal and a good army? I'm sorry for my noobishness, but I'm more of a painter than a gamer.

The army is legal(i think).
Again you have a couple strong heroes but too few models. Drop boromir and add more troops. With 600 points according to LoME the enemy could field up to 75 models. That;s almost twice your army. So although boromir is a tough hero he will get slaughtered at some point because he will end up fighting alone.
If you want having boromir in your army he can be really efficient at 750+ point armies. If you go for 750 points and fill the remaining 150 points with core troops then you will have aroung 60 models and very good chances of winning the game.

Im not sure that this is a legal army list since you have 11 archers and 19 men without bows the sourcebooks state though that 1 third of your force can be archers and the rest can't have bows so this is illegal. Also, as Eruntalon said Boromir works in a 750 or up game but dosn't work really good in a 600 pts game.I would take out Boromir and use the cost for 6 rohan cavalry since Gondor has lances while rohan has the special rule. Then use the rest of the points for a King of Gondor.Leave only 7 rangers and get Madril to lead them and add a banner. Then put the footsoldiers with the King of Gondor.

Thanks for your help, both of you.

In total I've got 33 men, and one third of 33 is 11 men, so I think it's legal...
I think I will take out Boromir and use the cost for Rohirrim cavalry, but I've got a Gondor army, so is it allowed to use Rohirrim? I know according to the rules good forces may ally, but if I've got a Gondor army, shouldn't it be just Gondorians?

So long as you have a Rohirrim hero, you can bring in Rohirrim.

The bow limit only applies to warriors in your army. So you are actually 1 bow over. 30 models, 11 bows = illegal. Just swap a ranger for a WoMT and the list will be legal.

So what about this?

-Damrod, Ranger of Ithilien
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-4 Rangers of Gondor

-Captain of Minas Tirith w/ shield
-1 warrior of Minas Tirith w/ shield
-1 Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ banner
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-6 Rangers of Gondor

-Mounted Faramir w/ heavy armour and shield
-6 knights of Minas Tirith

-Boromir of Gondor
-8 warriors of Dol Amroth w/ shields (in fact just warriors of Minas Tirith)

Total: 602 points

Less than a third of the army are archers, I got Boromir of Gondor instead of Boromir of the White Tower and 8 warriors of Minas Tirith (I called them Warriors of Dol Amroth because I really like Dol Amroth, and intend to paint them in Dol Amroth colours). Is this a legal and good army? I don't need an exceptionally strong army, just a gameable army that stands a bit of a chance. So, what do you think?

Boromir of Gondor can only be used with the Fellowship warband, he can't lead any troops.
If you call your WoMT "Warriors of Dol Amroth" it's confusing, because there are existing Dol Amroth troops, but they require a Fiefdoms hero to lead them. So call them whatever you want on the table, but for lists here please use their actual names.

Damn, I should study the rules more often. :x

I'm sorry for taking such a long time just to make an army, it's just that before this, I never played with the new sourcebooks...

Is this any good?:

-Madril, Captain of Ithilien
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-4 Rangers of Gondor

-Captain of Minas Tirith w/ shield
-1 warrior of Minas Tirith w/ shield
-1 Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ banner
-4 Warriors of Minas Tirith w/ shields and spears
-6 Rangers of Gondor

-Mounted Faramir w/ heavy armour and shield
-6 knights of Minas Tirith

-Captain of Dol Amroth
-8 warriors of Minas Tirith
-2 Rangers of Gondor

Total: 603 points

Well, now you have a Dol Amroth captain leading WoMT, but a Dol Amroth captain has to lead Fiefdoms troops :) Either get a normal Captain of Minas Tirith, or use Beregond and use the point savings to add more warriors and equip them.

Madril is fine, you might give him most of the rangers. The bowmen don't have to be split by in the warbands, the % limit is by allied contingent. Since you have no allies, you can put them wherever you want.

You should give all your rangers spears, and at least 1/2 your WoMT. Spears are what you notice most when you don't have them. And fielding "naked" WoMT doesn't really get you anything...for the price of one guy you can give the rest equipment that may double their chances to survive (eg a shield brings you from D5 to D6, which cuts wounds in half against normal orcs and men), or increases your tactical options (spears).

Last note: in friendly games it's fine to go over a point or two, but any tournament list will have a hard limit.

I find this army effective:-

Denethor
6x WOMT (s).
6x WOMT (sp).

Damrod.
12 x ROG (6 with spears)

Beregond.
6x WOMT (s).
6x WOMT (sp).

Forlong the fat.
5x knight of dol amroth

Banner.

500 point

I added the knights of dol amroth because you mentioned you liked them ,personal I don't think their worth the points , I'd rather have citadel guard for the same points.

Thanks! One question though: Is Denethor worth the points? I mean, he's got the special rule so he could end up fighting for the opponent's side.

I changed a few things of your army list and I got this:

Denethor
6 Warriors of Minas Tirith with shields
6 Warriors of Minas Tirith with spears

Damrod
6 Rangers of Gondor
6 Rangers of Gondor with spears

Faramir mounted
5 Knights of Minas Tirith

Captain of Dol Amroth
7 Knights of Dol Amroth

Total: 505 points

I removed Beregond's warband and replaced Forlong with a Captain of Dol Amroth, so that I could get some cavalry, as I already have some painted riders that I wanted to get into my army.

So, is this army all right?

Yer I think denrthor is worth it , good fight , strength , attacks and courage it's very rare he's going to fall his courage test but if he does use the will
Your army is good cav is excellent!! BUT if we were playing against each other and we'd agreed a 500 point limit, I wouldn't let you play your army.
I know what your thinking !! But what's the point in having a limit if you just ignore it when convenient , harsh but that's the rules.

Thanks. I don't really care about the fact that I have a little more than 500 points, but if I was to play against someone who would find it an issue, I could easily remove a warrior of MT or a ranger or something... So that problem's solved. I don't think I will use Forlong though, because although he is a good warrior, I don't want to pay 18 euros just to get him.

I will try to build this army, then. :)

Yes he does cost a bit I was lucky and found mine on eBay for cheap. Your army is solid - max number of troops , good base defence , bows ( don't forget near the end get your rangers in the fight , they have a good fight value and can swoop in a win the day killing enough to break the enemy , their also good for breaking away and capturing an objective while you tie up enemy with WOMT ) . It's a good army to start with and played right will hold it own against most things it faces , have fun.
