My gut feeling is that Sticky Fingersss is correct. Essentially that the "LOTR" will be re-branded the "Hobbit" with possibly a few minor tweeks. It makes no sense to a business to ignore the huge impact in marketing terms of the Hobbit film.

I expect that we shall see a boxed set plus supplement per film, which is something I am I am excited about.

Somewhat ironically during a game of LOTRSBG on Saturday, I commented on my rule book literally being about to disintegrate. It really is well into injury time having been consulted through countless battles and three doubles tournaments, and I shall soon need anew one any way!

I am very much looking forward to seeing the new releases!

It's odd that the three journeybooks were pulled from the website too. Doubly frustrating that I only have Fellowship...

Since the release of the new paint sets, all the old hobby sections are out of date. It's probably easier (and more profitable) to re-release them with updated hobby sections and they can tweak any rules and stats that have changed as well.

I hope they don't redo the sourcebooks. Not paying £20 per book again to have updated stats.

By sourcebooks, do you mean Mordor/Fallen Empires/Kingdoms of Men/etc?

Because my guess is, given when they came out, those armybooks were made in conjunction with the new upcoming Hobbit rulebook, which I expect to have exclusively Hobbit film characters. I think the idea was that they could release this rulebook full of the rules and characters for the Hobbit, and have the five armybooks available to let people also play with their Lord of the Rings characters (rather than try to cram 6 movies' worth of characters into the one book, when they really want to ride the Hobbit train).

Beyond those five armybooks, however, I wouldn't be surprised if they did phase out all of the other books (Fellowship, Towers, etc) along with the Mines of Moria set. Hopefully they don't go too all-in on the Hobbit, though. LotR is still awesome :/

 Are those the minis that come in the Escape from Goblin Town set? If so, I want it even more now. Those are stunning, especially for plastics!

Not sure yet! It would indeed be nice to have a non geriatric Bilbo, Thorin looks fantastic but I really do not need another Gandalf the Grey!

Those are definitely minis from the starter set, you get:

Bilbo
Gandalf
13 Dwarves
39 goblins
the goblin king
Radagast (in the limited edition box)

As well as some gorgeous shanty town style walkways scenery. UK price £75.

The dwarves are amazing and I 'm a big fan of the new look Goblins although they've divided opinion on the forums! There's plenty more info over on 'The Hobbit Release Thread'.

White Dwarf is also now available to download so you can read all about it - very exciting times ahead!

The new WD still has an add for the "new" sourcebooks. They definitely are not out of date and will work with the new SBG rules.

Hey guys, I'm not gonna choke up this thread but for anyone who's interested I've posted a breakdown of the WD contents/vague ideas about rules changes here:

Exciting stuff!

I'm suprised that even though they removed the rules, the LOTR section still exists, with the hobbit just having good and evil sections. I thought they would rearrange everything and add something extra like "goblin town" to the army lists for the hobbit....

I get the feeling that they won't be changing the "armies" until the second movie (or at least the second release, whenever/whatever that'll be) because the good section only has the White Council whereas all of the evil guys are pretty much all Misty Mountain based.
