Oh wow, it's my turn. Um, really easy one, how were each of the 12 dwarves that traveled with Thorin related to him?

Fili and Kili were his nephews, and I think a couple were his cousins but that's all I can do off the top of my head.

OK, I got the family tree :) .

Fili and Kili were the sons of Dis, his sister.
Then Balin, Dwalin, Oin and Gloin. Hold on:
Thorin was the son of Thrain, son of Thror. Thror in turn was the son of Dain I, the son of Nain II. Nain also had another son, Borin, whose son was called Farin. Farin had two sons: Fundin and Groin. Balin and Dwalin are the sons of Fundin, Oin and Gloin the sons of Groin. That makes them cousins five times removed?

Fingon rescued Maedhros, who was son of Fëanor. Maedrhros then gave up his claim to being king of Noldor and Fingolfin became king and "re-united" the two houses . . . kind of ;-)

Seems this was a stumper . . . should I answer it? Bigger hint. If you quote the following and put it in google with quotes around it, the answer is given: "He pipes not to me, He pipes not to thee. He whistles for none of you. His music is his own."

They were the Fire-Drakes, the last one of which was Smaug.
