I especially loved how he came up with those small conversions that made such a difference, conversions none else dared to come up with. Simply brilliant, again, again and again.
Thanks Dave for everything you shared! :yay:

I went through this WiP again late last night and really did enjoy it all over and realized how many things he did became 'to do' items for my wish list. His Gothmog and Haldir are some of the best examples I really were interested in, and his alternative Gulavhar and Necromancer choices were inspiring. It's nice to see people revisit and posting here.

I have skimmed throught this entire thread again. So many creative and positive, inspirational conversions. And I am glad we made him laugh too (Rocksalmon/stonefish). I think my fondest conversion was one Dave created as Bilbo of the White Tower - he very cleverly put together Bilbo in Minas Tirith armour (from armoured Pippin I think) - it was a very, very neatly done piece. If anyone can track down one of the pictures he posted of that piece, it would be a great keepsake.

I dont understand. Some people should live forever. I always enjoyed BOTWT comments and was a great input to the community. Loved his work! Seems as if he realy had a passion. It is realy quite upsetting and i feel for loved ones and freinds etc. Thanks

I've got to say, even as a newbie, this WIP is so inspiring. Isn't there anyway this thread can be immortalised in some way?

I just read it, and I can't believe it. He was such a great guy. May you rest in peace, and condolences to family and friends...

I write this as a new member on the forum. I have found my short stay so far to be one of the friendliest so far. But that is all so obvious now when I see al of your kind words about him. Botwt was a credit to all of you, so I think the most fitting thing to say is

Farewell, but know that you touched so many lives in your life, I am sorry for having never met you. But you leave so many behind who will be missing you.

I know feel I have to paint my 'the hobbit' bilbo in his honour

This is the third time I've read this thread from beginning to end, and it's the third time I'm left with an empty feeling. It still seems so strange and surreal.

I'm new to this forum, but from all the lovely comments in this thread and the encouragement he gave his fellow hobbyists, I can see what a decent man he was.

I want to paint a new Knight of the White Tower in his honour.

Oh man this is a sad piece of news to come back to. I didn't know him, but he always seemed like a nice guy and a really enthusiastic hobbyist.

I'm so shocked to hear this devastating news about one of the most treasured members of this community of gamer painters and so on. I am deeply saddened by this news and am so glad that i managed to be on this website while such a lovely person was here to contribute in an effective way. My thoughts and concerns go out to his family.

Ed

About 5-1/2 years ago I essentially dropped out of the hobby and neglected to visit this fine site, due to an overwhelming job and increasing family obligations (birth of a second child). Now with a new job, some spare time and a 12 year old son who's fallen in love with Middle Earth, I decided to break out my old Games Workshop minis and put the lad to work painting my rather large backlog. He's doing quite well, by the way.

So yesterday I decided to log-in here again and get re-acquainted with old friends, namely David (Bilbo of the White Tower) and a fellow from South Africa by the handle of Tobold Hornblower. I had corresponded and traded with these fine gentlemen regularly back in the day and was looking forward to introducing them to my son.

I was deeply saddened to read of David's passing. He was as fine as could be found in this community. I regret not re-connecting with him sooner.

My son's interest in the hobby as re-ignited my own. I plan to become active here once more. I've noticed my previous gallery photos and the thread of my Swan Knight conversions did not survive the various updates to this site. I will attempt to re-post the in-progress and finished product photos.

As for David, may he rest in peace, I hope to finally meet him on the other side.

I just spent the morning reading this thread and being super impressed with everything then got to "that" post and it was like someone had punched me in the chest.

Really really sad, RIP David even though I never knew you.

I know I'm a newbie here, and never had the chance to meet or speak to BotWT, but having just read this from start to finish I wanted to say what a loss to the community this was. That said having this thread made sticky is a wonderful tribute to a guy that was obviously very talented, and is a means for those of us who are to new here to continue being inspired by his presence.

RIP mate.

I've been here since May of 2009 and I remember some of the things Dave did. But I never took the time to really go back through his blog or what he posted here.

My loss. I should have done this sooner.

May God bless you, Dave. RIP
