Seriously considering a Dwarven army...

I wonder if I can get a Dwarven army and ally it with Treebeard, forget archery - I'll just throw Gimli, Thorin and Dain right in the thick of it and hack any opponent to bits. Then send Beardy in to fight a Balrog or something. I love the new throwing rule.

Sounds like fun! Well I picked up the below if anyone is looking for an addition to their dwarven armies -

* 8 Metal Khazad Guard (painted)
* 6 Metal Dwarf Warriors, 4 unpainted
* Metal Dain (painted)
* Metal Balin (painted)

I'll likely be stripping these down when they arrive and decide whether to keep them and paint them or trade them.

If anyone wants Khazad guard, I have a few!

What do you need in return?

Also, yes the Dwarves of Erebor can take spears but they lose the option of bows and 2-handed axes.

Meaning they can't have a bow or two handed axe at the same time as a spear? or 2H Axes and bows are not even an option for them in general?

I'm beyond giddy for the new dwarves and Elnaith, I'm hoping we get them with spears and shields as well, not as an option, but I mean new models.

Can anyone tell me if the new Elnaith can take shields?

Their only options (as far as I can recall) were shield; spear; banner; war horn.

Pretty lame, I know...

Rivendell Knights can take shields and have expert rider.

Thank you and thank you! I'm not too broken up over the loss of bows, especially now that shooting in general has been nerfed, and no volleys. Might have to see about a ballista in it's place. I've never put much reliance on archery anyway, unless I'm playing with my elves, but the two handed axes will be missed.
The only thing that has me worried from a model standing point are the Grimhammers. They are, I'm guessing meant to represent the Dwarves from the Battle of Moria.The Dwarves of Erebor look the same but with shields and spears. But all the Grimhammers appear to have only mattocks. Unless its a multipart kit and spears and shields are optional. In short I can't see GW doing that, or making an identical looking unit with different wargear available. That said they did make riderless wargs as an option....so I don't know. I'm very curious to see how this plays out.

They arnt the greatest, Khazad Guard imo are better. And yes you are correct, you can take Dwarves of Erebor (basically dwarf warriors) with spears now. Eagerly awaiting that box set.

I desperately hope Grimhammers and Dwarves of Erebor are separate boxes; if they aren't, GW will use it as an excuse to jack up the prices to unreasonable levels. Oh, and are there any pics of the Dwarves of Erebor with spears in the BRB?

What's worrying me is that they have the same armour. I'm thinking maybe they only gave Gw pics of the Battle of Moria Dwarves and didn't tell them that Dwarves of Erebor look the same, just with shields and spears. So we might be screwed

Just saw the Hobbit, will these dwarves look like the ones in the Moria battle scene in the movie?

Yup. There's a big photo of a dwarf army in the new rulebook.

I don't trust that one though, they were missing from the GW one, maybe they're for a June/July release or something? I hope they're here soon, I need some to complete my dwellers of the deep places army.

The GW what? They popped up on the website then got yanked, with stuff coming out in January too who knows maybe their coming out even sooner. These are new plastics that people are going to be clamoring for. My guess is GW is going to use the films momentum and flood us with stuff.
