Hey guys, I plan to make a sizable Rohan army and this is the start of it, some bodyguards and sons of Eorl, soon to be followed by Erkenbrand the Red (hence the red shielded bodyguards), Eomer, standard riders and a host of foot warriors with command.

Very nice paintwork there; I particularly like the shields on all of them and the horses are excellent. I look forward to seeing much more of this!

Very nice job indeed! :yay: I especially like the Royal Guards' shields and shinguards - very plastic look! The one thing I would advise is a bit more variety for the horses: especially some grey ones, since that's what the Rohirrim mainly have in the books. The ones you do have are superbly painted, though. Keep 'em coming I say! 8)

Good painting, like your Royal Guards, I know how long they take to paint

I like how your army is looking. The bases of the Sons of Eorl are great, will you base your whole army like them?
Is it easy to let us how did you make them?
Thanks

For the bases I used the GW basing paints. Sterling mud was the color, then drybrush with baneblade brown. Super easy. The grass tufts are from their line of basing material too (I don't remember which but its the one with the Space Marine on the front of it)

Thanks for the input guys, I want to do some other color horses (sadly batch painting sucks for that) but I think my next 3 will be grey, and then 3 paints brown/white.

Also, I have some archers that I want to paint up like outriders on foot with a master of the hunt. Any suggestions on a color theme? I was thinking grey cloaks with red under shirts and dull metals for blending in the woodlands.

Nice Rohan force building there - going for a yellow/gold effect on the warrior shields is a nice touch - it fits the genre but makes your force distinct from the more traditional white insignia.
I assume you paint the horses separately then attach the painted riders - that is how I have been doing them as it makes it easier to cope with large numbers.

Actually I am quite lazy like that. I glue them together first then paint so I can use the models in a game before they are done, I probably could do batches of horses too but I look at my paints (I have the whole GW set) and think to myself... meh I don't want to pull out another set of colors.

As far as the idea for the shields, I got it off the back of the Kingdoms of Men book. It has a picture of a Rohan helm shield and some weapons, but the shield is done up brown and gold so I just figured I would roll with that. Turned out nice ;)

Love the Red Shields on the Royal Guard. Will have to try that on some of mine for variety! Maybe even gold shields..... Keep it up!
