Which spray undercoat do you use? My brother just gave me a tin of White spray undercoat! I have only used black before. Does it really make a difference which colour you use? x

I always paint over black, have done for 8 years or so. Cant stand painting over white personally. Really obvious if you miss bits.

Black is normally used because for 2 main reasons:
1: if you miss a spot it is not as noticeable and can be used deliberately to blackline the model, an effect where you leave a small line of black between different sections of the model where two colours meet to give more definition.
2: builging up from a dark colour for shadows is easier from a dark basecoat.

There are reasons I've found for starting at white though.
Brighter colours (eg yellows) where you want them to be bright work better from a light basecoat as they don't need as many coloured coats to get rid of the muggyness that comes from a darker base.

I always use black but I'm thinking about priming my goblins white. Fleshtones are really easy with washes over a white basecoat like they did in this tutorial.

I go 50/50 and use grey
It works really well with all colour, I find. 8)

I personally love Army painter Uniform grey primer. Colour covers easy, if I miss spots they are not as obvious as aif I used white primer. And I still get a bit brighter modells since I used a relatively brighter primer than black :)

I have always used black (since I started really, dang Mines of Moria paint set guide!), but for my Arnor and Mordor armies I'm going to use white. The army's colours are going to be a lot brighter so it seems appropriate.

When i started i used black , but then turned over to the white basecoat.
White is quite handy ...
U just gotta work with thinned layers, u never have to thick coats on ur models covering up the detail like that! And it's actually still possible to do things like a drybrush if it's really needed to.
Thinning paints also saves out lots of paint + it doesn't matter if ur paints have gotten dryer a bit and aren't easy to handle - because u have to watter them down anyways..
Also really handy to do shades,.. very fast because the wet paint just runs into those parts where it should be dark. Just paint quick enough so it can run into the grooves.
Very good for doing mass painting. In fact it actually doesn't matter if u just paint a bit over a piece - while the paint is still wet u can pick another brush to just suck up the paint u placed on the wrong place.
Also with the thin layers u might actually barely notice u painted a little bit over a piece that u shouldn't have done. U need to mix less paints.
It's easyr to go darker then to go lighter.
Uhm maybe there are a few more why white is handy. But this might be different for each person what to pick. It was asking me some practise in the beginning since i was so used to the black basecoat but it really helped me improve.
Hope this helps :)
