That's just a convenient excuse Southy.

shhhh :P

anyway, getting horribly off topic. I may pick up some eagles in the future. As much as they look nice, I have a hard time fitting in my current eagle into my lists let alone 3

All the new Hobbit releases will be available, whilst stocks last, in stores.

Some of the finecast minis may be 'splash' releases (i.e. once they are gone, they are gone to direct only).

I've got myself some Eagles :D

Not as much variation as I thought- each sprue builds a single Eagle in one way with no spares. Very nice, simple kit though and good sized Eagles!

Pictures from the rulebook show both heads on both bodies, are you sure they're not interchangeable?

Not sure what this fuss is about them being in store/direct or whatever.. As far as I'm aware they are a normal product you can order whenever you want for all of time or until its discontinued at least...?

Yup, you're right. Have just assembled them- the heads/bodies are joined while the wings and tails are interchangable.

Do you think there will be sourcebooks for the hobbit? Like people of mirkwood or men of Dale or something? Just wondered :)

I reckon there'll be a source book for each film.

+1

It was the same with LotR and seeing that the next movies should cover a lot of stuff so i expect the next one to have some mirkwood and necromancer stuff then the last one to have dale or erabor and orcs.

Maybe (read: hopefully) they will stick to heroes though as they did with MoM and we'll see a Plastic White council and necromancer for the next one and then a plastic Beorn for the last!

At £20 I think the Riddles in the Dark set is incredibly overpriced. Just made a quick price comparison on a few products that I feel are comparable in terms of the amount you get in them:

Galadriel, Celeborn and Mirror (metal) - £12.30
Hobbits of the Shire, 4 figures (finecast) - £12
Riddles in the Dark (finecast) - £20

Doesn't add up (though I do like the Gollum model).

Fortunately as you can gather I'm not too taken with the Hobbit releases, so I get to save money!

Yeah I really don't get it why they've raised the prices so much on The Hobbit releases. I think it might be because of the new film rights..?

does anyone else have a clue about these ridiculous prices?

Yeh its the revolutionary new material they are using Fart err sorry Finecast - fabulous stuff, never warps , doesn't melt in the sun, next to no prep work required, no air bubbles or miscasts. Fantastic worth every single penny ... Haha yeh right!

Sorry off topic my bad. I think it is something to do with the film rights. I seem to remember Green Dragon saying something about a very last minute price increase right on the brink of the starter set release. Maybe he can confirm this.

GD....over to you

Royalties was the reason I heard. GW hadnt factored them into their prices therefore jumped them up at the last minute.

Hello!

Yes the starter set was due to be around the same price as Dark Vengeance I believe but right before we were set to put the pre-orders up a new price list came through significantly higher "to represent royalties due to New Line Cinema" don't know if that means not enough was originally paid to them or something but thats what you can put the Hobbit down to for high pricing. New Line Cinema weren't very helpful at all and from what I can gather (again not confirmed info) Games Workshop runs to their schedule not vice versa.

It might have changed as a result of it becoming 3 movies and new-line deciding the extra year of value they were providing deserves more money.

Interesting. It seems as though both GW and New Line are to blame. The bottom line is that the price point is way too high for the Hobbit, for both long-time fans and the sorely-needed movie-boom buyers. LotR and the Hobbit serve as great advertising tools for GW. The Lord of the Rings prices, when first introduced, were at a nice place for LotR fans wandering into a hobby store through the allure of the brand name. People don't have any more money since then, but the cost of the miniatures has increased drastically.

Nothing I've seen so far has seemed worth the asking price; I haven't purchased anything from the Hobbit range.
