Hi guys,

I was wondering if, in a tournament or at GW, I would be able to use some WoMT if they all had spears and I painted them like the Warriors of Arnor?

Thanks,

No.

See this thread for details. Unless you converted them to look like WoA otherwise they will just look like green gondorians.

I agree with Southy, painting them green just isn't enough. Especially for a tournament.

A player at my local GW has painted his Warriors of Minas Tirith with blue cloth and gold armour, but that doesn't make them into Galadhrim Warriors. Do you see what I mean?

For friendly games I'm unable to say a definite yes or no, it all depends on your opponents thoughts. Best thing to is ask and discuss it with them beforehand. Echoing the link above, I personally don't believe it'd be proper gaming etiquette for my opponent to just turn up with a bunch of models and suddenly claim they're something else, when they look essentially no different than what they are. However, if my opponent asked and talked me through his ideas before a game, I would be more inclined to let him go ahead with it.

If you were to make a further effort to distinguish them from Warriors of Minas Tirith than just painting them differently that'd also get you brownie points. File down the shields, replace the White Tree with the heraldry of Arnor, file down the plate-skirts and make it look like cloth, replace the helmets, there's all sorts of extra things you could do 8)

Would I be able to do this if I scratched the white tree off the shield and breastplate and sculpted the arnor design on?

Or would I have to make the armour below the waist into cloth too?

Ideally both.

Thanks. That's what I'll do as it would save about £20 or so.

All of them look easy to convert into spearmen with shields apart from one pesky archer (this guy) any ideas how I could do him?

I'm not experienced with sculpting or converting yet, but looking at that I would think to make his left arm holding spear up and his right arm would hold a shield. You could shave off the right arm and then sculpt your own I think

You could convert him into a captain of arnor as they're allowed to carry bows... Maybe put an ornate shield on his back, reposition his bow arm and give him a different hat (check out the original Captain model, he has a beret with a plume)?

@ Falkrik: I can't sculpt anything of my own yet so that's unfortunately not possible for me.

@ Matt: That's a good idea and probably the only one possible without sculpting another arm.

Thank you both of you.

Are there any pure geniuses out there who know how to easily convert this pesky guy to have a spear and shiel without resculpting the arm?

If you have a very fine knife/scalpel I imagine you could in theory cut between the arm and the face. I don't own the model in question so this is all thoughtwork; you'd have to take your time or risk damaging the model! I think your options are generally pretty limited because the arm is 'attached' to the face.

However, if you made an incision in the guy's right soulder and cut between the arm and the face you could remove the whole arm, then reposition it. If you then added a shield you'd be able to hide any inaccuracies or damage... Sounds like a tricky job though!

Yes. That'd probably be too difficult for me. Besides, now I come to look at it, an arnor warband leader with a bow for just over 50 pts is something I will need anyway.

Coolio! That makes things much easier then - I suggest the aforementioned changes, especially repositioning the bow arm. Make him look heroic, have fun with him :) and if you have a spare spear (tongue twister) be sure to glue that on his back too as his point costs counts as having one already! :)

As I've mentioned elsewhere, this is a conversion ill be attempting down the line. Filing down the shield and stencilling the Arnor motif, filing down the plate armour and learning to make chainmail with green stuff, filing the wings on the helmets and making them look more ranger of the north like and giving them all shield and spears! I won't be going for green, I'm sure old Arnor used black! One day... :)

With regards to the archer, the easiest conversion surely would be simply removing the bow and replacing with a spear and sticking a shield onto his drawing arm? Would look rather heroic I think, captainesque :)

depends on how well you do the conversions.
