I can't really tell from the picture, but those casualty models could possibly be converted into "live" units. I made my dead Easterlings into a drummer and a captian on foot. They look pretty decent too.

I think that dead elf would make an excellent 'ninja' pose... 8)

I think those armoured LotR minis just happen to be the ones that have multipart options for Captains and soforth. Isn't the Galadhrim Knights set the same price as the Kataphrakts, et al?

In the case of the orcs, it would mean sculpting about half a mini's worth and probably reposing, too. I wondered about it, but I can't see a way of making it work.

I'm not talking about the finecast set of 8 casualties, I was talking about the 2 dead elves that come with the Rivendell Knights. From the looks of it, you would have to sculpt an arm and some armor onto them, but they migh make good captain conversions.

Well you might need some of the casualties to attatch to the base of some cavalry, the Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs definately, because, they don't balance too well on 1 leg.

The grim hammers are nice models. HOWEVER there are ton of those stupid annoying 2 part double handed weapons garbage with the one arm to shoulder with weapon then a shoulder up to wrist for the other part. All the parts are numbered on the sprue but there were NO instructions beyond the pictures on the back of the finished minis to tell you WHICH numbered arms go with WHICH numbered TORSO. A MAJOR PITA.

That is odd, my Knights of Rivendell have instructions showing how to assemble them with the corresponding numbers, but then again they are fairly simple and really don't need instructions. I also noticed that on the sprue for the Finecast Elrond it had the copywrite for WBEI (Warner Brother Entertainment Incorporated aka owners of New Line Cinema)

Look out for forthcoming assembly guides as ipad exclusive digital products,

Really though the lack of instructions is odd. Usually even really simple kits have instruction sheets. There's no way you're going to make a mistake assembling the new warg riders, admittedly, but still.

I just noticed the incredible lack of detail of the new Radagast versus the LE one. Yet the former is Finecast, while the latter is plastic...

Lack of detail? Really? The hair and textures are much better on the FC. The only detail missing is the stitching on his cloak, which isn't particularly interesting or necessary.

I took a look at my Rivendell Knights today and found something I don't like. The Banners aren't flat, the house emblem is sculpted so you would need to fill it if you wanted to paint your own on it.

That's how most banners are now-a-days.

So yesterday I began to assemble my Knights of Rivendell, I cut out a few of them and began the assembly of them here was what I got in the box:

Image

The first two went together perfectly but as you can see, when I got to the captain I found that they had given double sprues for the same side:

Sense I don't really care about the captain as I have Elrond to lead them I'm actually happy I have 6 with the Helmets but the box says it comes with the option of a horn blower so I'm thinking that I got a second banner and Helmeted Elf at the cost of the horn. That isn't a big deal to me as I'm thinking of just sculpting a horn in greenstuff and placing it on one of the models sides.

Does anyone have the other half of my two captains?

Indeed, you may be able to get a new box, and maybe even keep the old one! Also, is the captains quiver actually attached somehow to his foot?! That seems really ridiculous.

I think its meant to be as if it's atached to the saddle of the horse 8)

So was the horn missing or does it not come with one, and as the box always says "contents may vary" ??

Looking at the sprues on GW.com, looks like that may be just how it is... can't see a hornblower... Though it does say it includes the option of a warhorn... FALSE ADVERTISING!... :P

The quiver is set on the foot of all the knights, but when they are mounted it doesn't look odd as it looks to be hanging from the saddle.

Edit: Here are the Pictures of the two spots that I need to fill, on the helmet I have two that have the space the others look fine.
