Question for you DMS:

I am making some objective markers, as you can see from the five resin bases in my proof pic...

Can I enter them in the challenge with the warband, or is it strictly miniatures only?

As long as you enter 8 miniatures as well as your objective markers i see no problem.

@ Ardboe

Google is your friend ;)

I like it as it is as it defines a difference between the clothing. I fear if you go darker it could lose this.
Very nice painting though and the war band will look great once they are all together.
My only thought is are you representing leather ? If you are then a very light drybrush of a lighter brown could help to assimilate the crackled leather look.

I had no plan of making like leather, more like rugged cloth perhaps. I wanted them to have a dark and dirty look, that is why I might wanted it to look darker, but I was afraid you would have a hard time seeing the diffrence between the skin and the cloth.

Crucifer - In which case I would toward what base you are doing and transfer some of that colour onto the clothing either with thin glazes or drybrushing to help dirty them up.

@Gandalf the Grey

I was planning on using bases similar to them in my WIP. Do you have any recommendations for what I could do? I really appreciate the feedback

Your bases are great but there is a touch of room to put some talus / sand in to be painted up. I would envisage a fairly regular paint scheme to them using colours like snakebite leather best ail brown bleached bone, that rep of thing.
I would look to putting them on the clothing, around the bottom of the garment but you could experiment with applying some on arms and shoulders to help with the grubby appearance. I would say that less would be more in the final figures. The last thing you want is to over do it and spoil the excellent work you've done already.

Is it acceptable if I only paint 8 of Thorin's company?

Out of curiosity, would the Three Trolls count as a single warband for this competition? I just got a phone with a decent camera and interweb connectivity and I won the Trolls as part of a raffle over this weekend.

It's in what you said: "3", not eight

But they're monsters, you only need 4 cavalry models for a warband, so 3 monsters would make sense.

Some progress.

Well, it's late in the game, but I have started. Spent a fascinating hour gluing myself to things and cursing.

I am being super ambitious and doing two warbands, or trying to. Two 'bands of Warriors of Minas Tirith, part of a wider project which has been left undone since November 2011. (I did try and do a Noldorin Exiles project last year, between all that was happening, but all I have to show for that are some half done Elves)

Apologies for the bad photo. The light in this apartment is truly hideous. Add that to a cellphone camera (the real one is hidden since our breakin in the autumn), and the result is pretty rubbish.

I'll have the better camera for the final shots, though.

Now that my better half's Birthday spectacular is done and dusted, I may have some time to paint! Being a slow painter i don't hold a lot of hope of getting them all done on time, but that's why they call it a challenge isn't it!

So here is my proof pic for "Into the Breach" a Uruk-hai capatain leading a demolition team, two uruks with shield and two uruks with pikes.
