Hey guys! Sorry for the long absence.. I'm neither dead, nor lost, nor abducted by some secret organisations, nor in any other critical state.. ^^
I just had to move because of the internship I just started.. but anyway.. back to the more interesting topics..

Some news on the Rohan front: I finally started with my Éomer conversion, which means i cut off the rest that was left of his missing sword and drilled a hole into his hand. First time drilling through metal, but yay it worked fine as you can see on the photo! I'm still waiting for some Rohan spears I found on ebay the other day, so don't worry about the stick.. it's just for demonstration.

In other news I managed a little progress on my captain and the hornblower.. Hornblower and I befriended again and I don't hate him anylonger, since he let me paint something onto his face, that really resembled an eye! I'm quite happy about that now : )
Captain is going on quite well too I guess, even if I had to highlight every single plate of his mail seperately. ^^
What do you think?

More updates soon..

Looking good Rognarr. To be honest the only way to do plate armour like that is by treating each plate as an individual. Drybrushing would not work properly.
Eomer sounds interesting and I look forward to that. Lots of detail to pick out on him so it will be a nice challenge.

And now for something completely different.. (did I mention that I am a Monty Python fan? ^^ )

So, for a sense of achievement (still lacking time for some decent progress :( )I took one of my Uruk beserks from the backlog. I like those models, because they are fairly easy to paint and look fantastic.
I picked a darker skintone this time, to get some variety (since the Uruks in the films had varying skin tones as well.)
Hope you like it.

Thank you John Wayne :)
Again, sry for the slow progress.. but at the moment I am super busy with my internship and uni stuff, so that my progress on painting is almost zero. :(
Hope to get some real updates done at the Easter weekend, when I have some spare time!
For now, just a quick update on my almost finished Uruk drummer and two handed axeman.. What do you think of the selfmade left arm? I'm still not overly happy with it, but then again, for a first try it is ok I guess?

You've done the drum skin great and I think just another highlight around the edge and the very middle will work well.
I would like to say more but the photo is a bit dark so I can't really make out the cloth and armour. It seems pretty good from what I can see.

Thank you Thao and Gandlaf!

I will probably give the drum a last highlight with some bleached bone on the named places. For the dark photos I am sorry. My room in my parents house (where all my painting stuff is at the moment) I have a roofwindow, that goes to the east, so I always try to get my photos done before noon, to get the maximum of natural light. The problem is, that the light still comes from above/behind which is a big disadvantage despite the amount of natural light. I will try to get something like that milkjar lightbox done which i had read about here: viewtopic.php?f=65&p=319654#p319654 I hope this helps improving my "Light situation" somehow.. :-/

The two handed uruk looks a bit dodgey but i think it will get away with it nicely on the field. Nice paint job nonetheless :yay:

Lighting is a problem. I take mine in the kitchen where I have big windows and loads of light, almost too much as these are south facing. I still haven't found an ideal way to take photos

Hey guys!
I guess I finally finished my two Uruk conversions! Also got a two handed conversion painted that was waiting in my backlog for YEARS..
Added some white hand details to the drummer (on the helmet) and to the two-blades-guy (chest and arm)..
Also tried out the "milk-jar-light-box" for better photo-quality, I think it helped a bit.
Don't know if I should add some shading to the drumsticks or just leave them like that, but that are very minor details I suppose. Also not really happy with the axe, but then again it's a rough orcish weapon, why should it be perfect? ><
What do you think? C&C welcome as usual!

Looking very good Rognarr. The extra highlight on the drum skin works a treat. If anything I would try to get the drumsticks the same, but like you say it is a minor point.
The light box has also worked very well, I can see everything now.
So all in all, great work.

Great work Rognarr, I especially like the drummer conversion, very inspiring. Is the drum an original sculpt or taken from another mini?

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I'll do my best!
The drum, as well as the left arm and the drumstick on the right hand actually did belong to an easterling rider. (I had some bits of those in in a bag of bits from ebay! otherwise I had tried to sculpt one myself ^^ )
I'm very glad that I can inspire others with my work!

Haha thanks Dothonion! Don't be jealous, have a try yourself! Actually I find Uruks to be some of the "best to paint" minis, for most of their faces is covered..

Here is a little bonus btw.. I stripped the Uruk captain you can find at the end of page 5 viewtopic.php?f=50&t=24858&start=80 of my WIP, and gave him a proper base design to support his "commander pose".

So, the other weekend some bits I got from ebay finally arrived and i could continue my little conversion on Éomer. Hardest part (except from cutting the arm/hand of the speak without breaking it) was to drill a hole into the hand of Éomer, that was big enough for the spear to fit in, but then again not to damage the hand of Éomer..

I managed it after all and am quite happy with the result! I also modified hte spear, so that it looks like the spear Éomer is using on the battlefield in RotK.
Hope you like it!?
Any tips or other ideas about what to add/modify here?

Hey Rognarr, that's a very clean conversion and your hard work has really paid off!

Because of the angle of his arm I feel that the spear should be the other way around, with the head pointing towards the ground... That's just my opinion though!

Edit:actually, I suppose it's a question of how you interpret the angle of his arm and the pose as a whole. I see him as preparing to throw his spear, which is why I feel the head should be the other way.

Nichtsdestotrotz: Saubere Arbeit :yay:
