Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the April Painting Challenge! This month you have chosen....
BANNERS
Image

Rules

If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

1.To complete the challenge a miniature carrying a banner must be painted. Please note characters who count as a banner and do not carry a banner are NOT eligible for this challenge.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniatures you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniatures 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of April 30th 2013. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniature off from multiple angles.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all

My proof pic which I primed this morning honest in readiness for the launch, though I didn't think this would be against the rules. Is this still eligible ? If not I have a foot one I can use.

Banners eh?

A very kickass individual over at LA gave me a heads up on a source that had Mauhur’s command in stock!

I’m happy to say that I finally got my hands on the elusive mini (I appreciate you looking btw, DMS).

To be honest, I’m absolutely terrified to paint it, but I figure I have to jump in one of these friendly contests eventually, right? 8)

I might change my submission if I decide to chicken out

What about models that carry a banner (of sorts) but do not count as one, like Khand? And particularly the King who counts as one and carries a several small banners/pendants but those aren't what count?

Khand I will allow yes as they carry a banner on their backs.

What about someone with a banner on their base?
One of my finished spectres, for instance?

Also, the shield on a corsair Arbalester is their banner, it is were their heraldry goes, and should be as viable as Khand. Is it?

I don't know if I will make it until the challenge finishes anyway, but I have a Rohan banner bearer conversion in my backlog at home. Unfortunately it's primed black and I started a bit of freehand doodling on the banner already (months ago).. would it be ok to join with it?

So long as you post a proof pic of what it looks like at the stage it is now then yes sure.

Oh, that's very kind! : )
This is what he looks at the moment (amongst others). If I enter the competition I will of course provide a proper pic of proof.

Is this source based in Canada or online? :)
I'm gonna paint the difficult figure of Gamling with the banner of Rohan...

A shield as a banner? well...in that case, I'll paint a warrior of rohan as his heraldry in on his shield...

/sarcasm.

Sorry nope the Arbelasters shield is a shield and not a banner as such. Completely different to Khand which have a flag/banner on their backs. Sorry mate

I guess he has as much of a banner on his back as the khandish do so sure why not.

Thanks to the help in the Beginners forum, I just recently started an orc warband. Had no real intention of painting the banner carrying orc, but this is the motivation I need.

Here he is unprimed and unpainted.

I'm hoping to paint Gamling with banner this month, here is my proof photo.

Not sure yet if I’ll enter the foot or mounted version, probably the foot one.
