So, this tuesday two friends and I had our first battle ever.
My cousin and I played Rohan versus my friend's mordor army.
Our lists were pretty basic stuff, because we don't have all the models we'd like to have :p
Below is the Rohan list we used.
Warband1
Eomer (horse/shield/thr.sp.)
7 RoR (thr. Sp.)

Warband2
Théoden (shield/h.arm)
12 WoR (shield/thr sp)

Warband3
Eowyn (shield/h.arm/thr.sp)
7 WoR (bows)
2 WoR (shield)
1 WoR (shield/thr.sp)

We won the game but had some thoughts on this list.
-We weren't able to use the throwing spears as much as we had liked to.
-We couldn't use all our archers (foot models) every turn due to blocked view etc.
So I revised my list a bit and came up with two alternative lists.
Rohan
Warband1
Eomer (horse/shield/thr.sp.)
8 RoR (thr. Sp.)
1 RRG (horse)

Warband2
Théoden (shield/h.arm)
8 WoR (shield/thr sp)
4 WoR (shield)

Warband3
Eowyn (shield/h.arm/thr sp)
5 Rohan Outriders on foot
2 WoR (shield)

Advantage of this list: the royal guard unit + 1 outrider on foot more..


Mixed Rohan/Gondor
Warband1
Eomer (horse/shield/thr.sp.)
8 RoR (thr. Sp.)

Warband2
Faramir (h.arm/shield)
3 WoMT (spears)
4 WoMT (spear/shield)

Warband3
Eowyn (shield/h.arm/thr.sp)
4 Rohan outriders on foot
8 WoR (shield/thr.sp)

Advantage of this list: heavier infantry. The WoMT can support my frontline of WoR who can charge in with their throwing spears.

I don't own the models I'd like to have :p
Erkenbrand or grimbold on rohan side for instance, or one of the cheaper named gondor heroes (except for denethor). I do plan on getting erkenbrand/grimbold in the near future though.
So, any thoughts on the lists? ^^

About the throwing spears, play another game or 2 with lots of them like you do in you new lists, and if you don't use them as much as so they're worth they're worth their points, just keep them for the cavalry and get a few extra infantry.

I prefer the Rohan/ gondor list. If you decide to drop the throwing spears, get some womt archers or rangers of gondor so you have more bows.
I think you're right that a cheaper gondor hero would be much better as you really need more points freed up to give you more archers and numbers without getting rid of all your throwing spears

Basing my opinion on just one game may be a bit harsh indeed.

Beregond seems a pretty decent hero for his price. I'm afraid to use denethor around ordinary WoMT... :/

If you don't care about theme: Eorl The Young has much better stats and wargear for the same points as your Eomer.

I think you already saw it but really never ever take WoR with bows, Outriders are better for the same points.

If you don't have Grimbold or Erkenbrand there is actually no reason to take Rohan...

You are right in nit wanting to take Denethor, he's to likely to attack you lol. Cirion is another pretty solid but cheap Gondor hero. And as stated above Gondorian Rangers/ Rangers of Ithilian are a must! That 3+ shoot is just amazing. Although you may find you have some units that defy the odds repeatedly, ie I have a warband of goblin archers that in all my games hit at a 67% rate and kill at a 50% rate of what they hit. Lol idk why but I always field them and get the same results

He's not likely at all. You have to have a series of bad rolls for that to happen, or be specially targeted by a wraith. We've played several games with him, and he only lost it once. And if a wraith is focusing on a 30 point model, that's the kind of Will-burning I'd welcome

Tell Ste that, Hashut did and Ste proceeded to have bad rolls for him for about three turns!

Probably Rohan Outriders, for +1C and the Vanguard rule over the +1F of GOndor rangers, but ideally both. Max out your bow limits as much as you can for each contingent.
