As an Isengard player I should be ecstatic but it just doesn't feel right at all.

If you don't want to get the benefit of the Beserker's 2H weapon you might as well take Ferals instead. 3 points cheaper and they can feint against elves etc. They're amongst the best troops in the game IMO, honestly surprised you don't see more of 'em about.

I played my first game with the new FAQ changes today and have to say the 'no special strikes if you can't see the weapon' rule worked really well. Uruk scout archers, Uruk Crossbowmen, Rohan warriors with Throwing spears, Beserkers, Grimbold etc. all fought with hand weapons at some point but not being able to feint or use Piercing Strike really gave the impression that they were fighting with some tiny concealed dagger rather than gaining the benefit from a full length sword or axe.

V. Good change IMO

The reason you don't hear that much about Ferals is that they have 1 less defense, 2 less courage and no 2HW when compared to a berserker, for only 3 points less.

The extra defence is nice but makes no difference against most Good shooting (obviously elves are an exception). The 2HW is a double edged sword (ha!) and often leads players to use their hand weapon instead (as in this thread). I also think the jump that the Feral gets from C3 to C5 is far more useful than the Berserker's jump from C5 to C7. After all, you don't hear a lot of elf players moaning about low courage. For every 4 Beserkers you can get 5 Ferals and having fought with and against Ferals an awful lot over the last year I'd far rather face the Beserkers.

I was just giving the reason why no body hears about them. Not that they were bad. Once u get into combat, the extra defense starts to play a role.

It's a very sharp hammer. ;)

Overall this seems like a pretty good FAQ. It's a lot more comprehensive than the ones they've been putting out for WH40k books recently.
