We'll get metal versions of Thorin's company on the same day GW cuts their prices by 33% and starts putting 'how to make your own terrain instead of buying ours' articles back in WD.

Finecast versions should be along soon in one form or the other though.

Oh and you forgot the Master of Laketown's servant bloke in your list.

Apologies for the derail here, but that's a really nice stag model - where did you get that?

I don't think we are too far off. The stag is an OOP Mage Knight click figure. I pulled it out for a elf king conversion. A very old LOTR figure on right. The bear I use for Beorn is OOP Reaper.

I'd expect something soon; they can't make the only versions of the Dwarves available via a 'limited' boxed set.

And I did, you're right. Edited and fixed, thank you.

The Escape from Goblin boxed set that includes Radagast is limited edition, but it doesn't seem to have exactly sold out. Apparently as soon as they have sold out a version minus Radagast will be on sale. However I am sure that this will be replaced by a Desolation of Smaug boxed set which I would guess may include Wood Elves and Spiders. I suspect that as soon as this happens the fine cast company will be released, and the goblin town set company will be available again separately as with the moria fellowship.

From what i see in the shops there is nothing limited about the EFGT with Radagast boxed set! loads of them about.

If we have to wait for them to sell out we will never get Thorins Company in FineCast,
which personally, looking at the SBG rule book they look good.

Perhaps the EFGT box didn't sell as well as hoped, hence GW have plenty of stock. I think GW have shot them selves in the foot with that one. That box should have been £60 (GBP) and been in lots of regular shops... e.g. Tesco, Waterstones, ToysRUs etc. That would have attracted a lot of attention to the system and helped popularise the hobby outside of it's existing base... I think the only people who bought it are long time fans, mainly people like us who have loved the LotR SBG and are happy to go along for its last ride (the three hobbit films).

But that was totally off topic, sorry.

I think that TDS will probably have a lot of content not in the book, or expanded, there just isn't a films worth at all in the middle section of the book so PJ will have to add and embellish to get a film out of it.

I think that the Mirkwood Elves vs Spiders will be the boxed set if there is one, but it is anyones guess what else will be release.

I'm hoping for a multi-part plastic smug... Other than that there is nothing else I am desperate for...

We will probably find that the post Radagast copies of EFGT are more saught by mint condition collectors than the original limited edition box sets!

I am quite keen on a collecting a fresh Elven Force, and a sea of spiders would be a fun option if done well. Particularly if we have special rules for webs and differing abilities.

We have to remember that TDS was a last minute addition to the series. We very well might not see a new starter set. We also might see some TDS stuff before the film comes out because GW might have a release schedule for the 2 Films, instead of 3. I would be surprised if we don't see Thranduil and his wood elves before the movie comes out. Same goes for the spiders.

I suppose that we have technically seen Thranduil and his army arrayed for battle, as well as two giant spiders, so they should not be hiding anything for spoiler alert reasons. However we have seen footage of Tauriel and Legolas fighting in green against orcs in a forest. Also, GW conversely might find that they are pushed for enough miniatures to release over an expanded period of three years rather than two. I would personally love to see knarled woodland scenery released. Dol Guldur ruins would be great as well!

It would be cool if they came up with some kind of epoxy or rubber string, for use as spider cobwebs. It would be good for terrain projects for LOTR and Warhammer Fantasy, and would be handy for miniature basing.

They suggested the use of hamster bedding in a GW modelling guide in the Mirkwood supplement, but personally I have to agree with you that the development of a specialist product would be great!

Although, knowing GW, they would take a commonly available and cheap material and just rebrand it as something "revolutionary and unique" and give it a markup of 500%. So, probably not such a good idea after all.

Yes, I suppose they are probably the most expensive supplier of sand in the known universe!

What did they use in the films for cobwebs? I cant remember exactly but I dont think it was incredibly difficult to do.

As an alternative, just tie some string together, cover it in a bit of lumpy glue and paint it as desired. Otherwise you'd have to use some rubber of some sort.

Theres a nice tutorial for cobwebs here - http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.co.uk/201 ... rwebs.html

Also what about an invisible Bilbo, just like the Frodo one that was produced?

I have tried several times to make cobwebs I have not found a way I am happy with

The new spiders will be findcast. Reaper Bones line includes a plastic spider for 1/10 the cost of fine cast

I actually wouldn't be surprised if most of the new models like the spiders are in plastic, especially since they're a troop type and not heroes. That would also make more sense since GW is trying to go all plastic in the next few years & phase out of fine cast all together

RangerofTheNorth I have to agree with you that there is no way that such a basic troop type in a swarm army (Spiders of Mirkwood) are ever going to be fine cats, as with the Goblin Town Goblins. Why do you think that GW are going to do away with fine cast, their release patterns show no sign of this, what evidence do you actually have for this?

Have to disagree here, if you actually play out the events of the Mirkwood section there's an awful lot there: wandering, Bombur falling asleep, chasing wood elves, spider attack, captured by wood elves, imprisonment, barrel escape etc. Surely that entire section will take at least an hour on screen. It's one of the reasons I was so pleased that they shifted the Mirkwood section to the 2nd film when they made a trilogy. Just think, all that stuff was originally planned to be in the first film, everything would have been so rushed over to fit everything in.

That's not to mention the Beorn section, and Laketown and Erebor stuff (we've seen a pic of Bilbo in the mountain in the second film), there's plenty there for a movie even before you've factored in Gandalf's escapades in Dol Guldor. I actually think the bigger issue they'll have is making sure there's enough material for the third film.

More on topic I also doubt we'll get any DOS stuff before the movie comes out. However much we've seen brief glimpses of elves and spiders I'm sure WB will want GW to stay spoiler free until the film comes out. Not to mention the fact that GW will be releasing their DOS rulebook/sourcebook in December and I doubt they'll release a bunch of figures before the stats are out for them. There's no doubt their release schedule has been changed though, those spiders and elves are almost certainly all done and dusted and sitting in a warehouse somewhere. GW won't be panicking though, the change to 3 films just gives them 3 years of releases instead of 2.

I'm also almost certain that the spiders will be plastic, if you took at the type of troops released for the first film in Finecast they're just single characters. All the troops/monsters are in plastic. I suppose there might be a Finecast 'Big spider' type monster if PJ has inserted a spider queen type monster in the film.
