Personally I've always wanted to field the council of wizardry they seem really powerful. For the two blue wizards I intend to use the old GW Radagast model and maybe a Malbeth model with some changes

I have to be the only person around that prefers the older radagast model. I feel he looks more regal. Also, a good model to convert to a secondary wizard would be either Cirdan or Celeborn. Give either a funny hat and you're good to go.

Cirdan and Celeborn are too "Elvish" for my taste to be a wizard (they don't look alike at all, in bearing and manner). I'm planning on using the Hobbit Gandalf and Gandalf the White.

I like the old one more too. The new one is just a bit wierd, as is PJ's interpretation of him in the film. :(

has anyone ever used tom bombadil and goldberry? sounds like fun having them wander around the board during a great battle.

I have to say I would only use Tom Bombadil and Goldberry in the most 'fun' of games. Much like the character in the books, in the games the pair of them would be utterly unpredictable.

I can't quite work out the benefit of them in terms of gaming.

What do people think of the Rangers of Ithilien?

The Nine are Abroad: Interesting formation, but at 500 points they have to be. Despite that amazing focus you will rarely gat past spell four without Spending a Might point or 4. They are pesky to kill, but not necessarily harder than say 2 Mumaks on the rampage for the same points. I would say worth the points but not necessarily under- or overpowered. Technically they are led by the Witch King so he can be duelled which would stop them using AtD! Though with 9 Might points he might be hard to actually finish off.

The Fellowship. Is actually also tough. The heroes can't be duelled, and is actually rather hard to exterminate, mostly due to "Gandalf the Necromancer" who can cast Blessing of the Valar and bring back the casualties (the hobbits and Boromir being usually the first choices), unlike the Nine though, you are going to need a 2000 point list to bring these bad boys under the Decree of Allies.

(Once had a fun game of just the Fellowship vs The Nine. The Fellowship were having the better of it, whittling away the Nazgul one by one and regenerating casualties)

Ithilien Rangers - I have fought against these a lot, not bad for the points with Ambusher and Pathfinder (Master) (over just Pathfinder(woods) for standard rangers). Usually I saw Faramir in there too giving them a Might well of 8 points. They arent anything special, just a pesky ambushing group of rangers, and archer units don't tend to need captains or extra Might points. I usually charged 'em with Uruk-Hai warriors and they died quick enough.

going back to the op, I've always taken the council of wizardry at 2000 points. it'd be rude not to! that unlimited range s10 shooting attack not needing LoS is ridonkulous!

I use the original radagast model as radagast. I use the sharkey model for one of the blue wizards and a really old Gandalf model for the other.

they're on a cut down infantry tray to minimise the number of companies that can charge it ;)

the 6th slot in their movement tray holds a stone plinth with an untainted palantir on top for added wizardness! :D

Ah hello White Wizard.

The Council of Wizardry (and the White Council) are indeed fun to see and play, but are a little more vulnerable than others of the super-expensive legendaries (as I recall when you fielded them against me once).
