Hm, that looks like a fantastic sculpt.
Sadly 35 won't blend in too well with 28 mm :(

I looked a bit further on the website and the LotR miniatures they have are amazing!
Here a link to the LotR page.

Possibly the finest LotR model I've seen in the 25mm-32mm-approximate scale. It easily outclasses Mithril and GW. But with the objectively superior sculpting quality noted, the miniature is a little too over-dramatic for my tastes.

But, depending on this Gandalf's price, Knight could give GW a legitimate reason to step up its game.

Here's the question, though: how is licensing working for this model? Large scale models aside, we now currently have 4 (four) companies producing Lord of the Rings/Hobbit miniatures of the same approximate scale--Games Workshop, Knight Models, Wizkids, and Mithril Miniatures. I was under the impression that GW had some sort of exclusive license?

I believe there are a few collectors at the One-Ring who are interested in the 70MM. They are very nice.

They will blend perfectly well with My Reaper Models. Reaper has a larger selection of models suited for role playing. The new Bones lines are much more cost effective. I am not sure if the 35mm LOTR models are pre-painted. I think the 35mm comic/Batman line is.

I think GW has the rights to produce 28mm. There have been licenses for other scales in the past. You mentioned Mithril 32mm and WK 54mm. There are other licensed toy scales as well.

Another new photo ! Cool! The text on the other link says 35mm. I hope it is 30mm. That would make a lot more people happy :D

Good news. The official site list it at 30 mm. Thanks for the heads up!
Good news indeed :D :D :D

I'm looking forward to this, I'm planning on picking up some of their Batman miniatures at some point (they have their own game system for them too) so I'll have to get one of these too. I just hope they do a Mouth of Sauron!

This is speculation on my part, I'm no legal whiz and I certainly don't know the specifics of LOTR/Hobbit licensing, but anyways here's how I've always understood it to break down:

GW's license is with New Line, to produce 25/28mm scale models for tabletop gaming. They can make whatever is allowed within New Line's license (stuff from whatever literary works New Line has access to, even if that stuff doesn't end up in the movies). The also obviously have some leeway in inventing characters.

Mithril's license is with the Tolkien Estate and/or publishers of the books, and therefore doesn't conflict with licenses allowing miniatures based on the movies (as long as the imagery isn't taken straight from the movies, which it isn't).

Knight Models has a license for 35mm scale hobby models, i.e. not intended for gaming and not made for any particular rule set, but rather as display pieces.

Wizkids' products are another class altogether, as they are blind-box collectibles. Even though they are used for a tabletop game of sorts, the license does not conflict with GW because it is categorized as a separate type of product.

Dunno if this makes sense, or is necessarily the case, just how I have understood things to be.

So everyone's product is just different enough that there are no conflicts.

Knight Models has been doing larger scale models for LotR for a while, but it was just revealed that this Gandalf is actually 30mm, not 35mm--quite possibly compatible with GW's range. Plus, he's on a gaming base of sorts. Is there no chance that Knight Models could pump out an LotR skirmish game a la the Batman Miniatures Game?

I am not sure they can not. They may have a role play game licence or a clik game licence. All I can do is guess.

From the point of someone who doesn't game, these figures are fantastic. I've been toying with bigger figures and these will tempt me though the 70mm I can't justify the spend at the minute. The 70mm Legolas is my favourite.

Knight Models 30mm Bilbo WIP. Wow. Far outclasses the five or six Bilbos GW has churned out.

Wow great find Jamros, what an amazing sculpt, really got the likeness right. Would agree, easily the best i have seen, even allowing for the larger scale

30mm, now that is mighty interesting! I'll keep my eye on this, and maybe buy some of their models if the price is right. I don't mind too much about the slightly larger scale. Even if you can notice it on the table top, height variances like this are still within the realistic possibilities, I think.

I'd say within the modern industry, 25mm-30mm is pretty much the same approximate scale now. Bilbo might stand out a bit against other Hobbits, but Gandalf will probably blend right in.

I have a couple models from Andrea Miniatures' 30mm ranges and they would do fine being labeled as 28mm. Likewise, Thunderbolt Mountain's French and Indian War range, labeled 1/48 (33mm approx.), apparently blends in quite well with 28mm FIW ranges.

The fact that Gandalf and Bilbo have been sculpted on tabs, and include gaming bases, indicates to me that Knight Models is probably targeting potential GW Hobbit customers. If so, the models would need some sort of compatibility.

Once these come out, I'm sure we'll see photo comparisons.

That Bilbo is stunning, a must have.
The difference between 28 & 30mm shouldn't be too much of an issue depending on the figures. I look from the view of having an army, some will be taller than others so you would have a realistic look.

Right arm looks a little short but other than that it's really great.
