Actually its not to bad if you look at the picture of Smaug's head and Bilbo. Bilbo in the image on a regular computer monitor is twice the size of the Citadel Miniature Bilbo, and if you reduce Smaug in scale by a further 50% we have a dragon who's head is approximately 1 inch high, and would fit onto a Mumak base!

Thats just what I am hoping for, it would make the price acceptable and a good size for the gaming table

I definitely wan't a Smaug model, and really like the idea of gaming with him! I am positive and would expect to see one next Easter to Early Summer.

Haha funnily enough, I've beaten every Monster/Monster containing list and every nature's wrath list I've come up against with the mounted force - interestingly the things everyone threatens me with!

The thing it has struggled with most is the Harad bowline list. Knocking me off my horses BEFORE I'm anywhere near really hurts, especially when it's the hero horses going down. Another reason I hate Legolas with his auto hit shot… :o

Anyhow, back to topic, very much looking forward to seeing this Smaug!

Actually as much as I too have suffered at the hands of the twangy elf, I think that he might be a serious contender as a Dragon Hunter!

I lost Saruman's horse to the swine in one of the tournaments on my first or second turn. It seriously inhibited his malice!

That's a very good point!

So perhaps all this rumour about the model being shelved/rejected because it didn't follow proper scale is good old fashioned internet guff...

I don't think the scale argument is anything more than a reaction to the rumor that a dragon model was rejected. I only found one article that even speculated how large the model should be. The 141 feet wing span was pure speculation. The gentleman I heard the rumor from was not a LOTR fan but a Plastic model builder. The context of the conversation was that GW can't design a large injected plastic model kit wit a decent seam. I had not even heard that a kit had been rejected at that point. I can say with out much risk that the gentleman did not read the rumor on Daka Daka  Speculating on rumors then drawing conclusions based on speculation and by then adding fuzzier math and a agenda we can concluded GW will not make a dragon kit.

I think GW will release Smaug, its just too big of a marketing tool to leave out. I mean the Balrog has scaled down by an insane amount. I'm sure they could do Smaug about the size of a Mumakil.

Yes i agree, start of next year i think, due to film release dates, maybe even in January's White Drawf, released just before Christmas normally.
