@Harfoot
Thank you, looks good!

Well that's a relief, I hoped it was the painting job. It such a shame that GW doesn't take the painting jobs seriously.

There isn't any rules changes to Legolas in the new book? I'll have to wait a few weeks to get it and I'm a bit curious. I assume there isn't.

Its a great sculpt, the paint job does not do it justice and the base will really help him fit in with the rest of the Mirkwood scenery!

Love the WotR Spider trays, Charles!

I made them so I could still use the spiders for other games that don't require bases.

Just had a look at both New DOS book and Free people book, both stats the same for Legolas

As much as the idea Oldman of those Spiders is, for cheapness, toy spiders look well too much like toys spiders. I like the proportions of real spiders.* This does however make an all Spider list more viable to buy, as it seems very fun in game. I don't know why people aren't happy with them.

*Speaking of which do you have to have paypal to buy them spiders off ebob?

Thanks for the pics of the Spider sprues, Farmer Maggot. They look ok but kind of plain. Maybe the pic doesn't do them justice?

I think I'll try to find a cheaper alternative. Still considering the WHF Spider Riders as a possibility. Might have to cut them up a bit to create some variety but I love working in plastic.

The Ebob spiders look pretty good too, does anyone have experience working with them?

Is AUJ still the most updated version of the core rules? Or does TDOS have updated/new core rules (not including profiles or scenario types)?

Okay, I'm going to swoop in and hopefully shoot down all of the posts pertaining to the possibility of a ForgeWorld Smaug.

There is a 0% chance of that happening. I worked for GW for quite a while and spoke with many people about the possibility of FW doing anything for LOTR/Hobbit. The thing with FW is that is isn't part of GW proper, and the contracts with New Line/MGM/Whoever do not cover any subsidiaries of GW.

Remember when ForgeWorld made the Weathertop piece? Do you also remember how quickly they stopped making said piece. FW got lawyered for that one. I don't think GW wants to go through that again.

Verdict, 99% chance of a plastic GW Smaug. But there is still a 1% chance of a dick move from GW making him finecast, lol. Never rule stupidity out with them :)

I don't think that's correct because they re-released weathertop end of last year to celebrate AUJ, I bought one.

It does explain the long gap in production and the fact there are no other products in the line.
I think there is a greater than 1% chance of bad judgment possible concerning Fine Cast. The fact that there is a rumor GW is negotiating scale with new line gives me some hope.

Can anyone confirm if the rules for Giant Spiders are the same as those from the LotR rulebooks? I am wondering about the larger base size and whether we have Giant and Huge Spiders now, or just simply an inconsistency in the size of the bases. Shelob looks good on a 60mm base but I'm not sure about these smaller spiders on that large a base.

It has been said many times the new mirkwood spiders are rubbish and not as good as their giant moria cousins. The mirkwood spiders stats are way worse considering they are more points and on a bigger base.

Which is incredibly disappointing. I had hoped for some really strong larger spiders to make fielding a large mixed spider force more reasonable

I thought the Mirkwood Spiders were the same points as the ones from the Necromancer book.

Yes but it's outdated, they went down by 5 points in the Warbands book.

And for ALL your information, the new Spiders are NOT as bad as you keep saying, they're worse value than the old 'un but more than useable.

I don't think GW would not make Smaug. Its just too big a marketing oppertunity. I mean the Balrog was almost the size of Smaug as they scaled that down by a huge amount!
