Nice work on the Rivendell elf MMS. I have to paint 32 of these guys next and am not looking forward to it.

Hi guys. After my last point I hit a brief burnout period. I wasn't happy about the colours on the elves and had a couple of frustrating days trying for a satisfactory result. I had intended for these to be my entry for the painting competition so anything short of my best wasn't good enough. In the end I took a break before starting over with the second age scheme.

I've also had another attempt at Eowyn and started a hunter orc warband.

Ok, so normally I hate the look of the Hunter Orcs. However, here I must make an exception to that because these are the most realistic ones I've seen yet. Well done with them. :)

A dark looking set of elves, orcs and Eowyn that I think look great. Eowyns body armour looks a little flat to be honest. Her face has been done very well, feminine tones executed to perfection. The battle worn helmet is a great touch.
The orcs are an impressive bunch, dark and menacing.

Wonderful stuff, once again it's Eowyn that's the stand out figure. I do love the way you have been doing your swords, something I will look to replicate.

It's all true metallics. I use glazes of turquoise, dark red and black over a boltgun metal basecoat with mithril silver highlights.

The Hunter Orcs are brilliant, how did you paint their skin?

I used reds and oranges, shaded with dark brown and highlighted with ivory.

My usual process for skin is to first apply the shade and highlight colours in the general areas. Then I use a thinned, translucent layer of my base colour overlapping what I had previously done. This is then repeated several times, each time refining the placement and transitions. To finish I add some fine highlights to pick out the details and glazes of black in the recesses.

This sounds time consuming but because I'm skipping the basecoat stage and I'm able to wet blend the layers it's quite a fast process.
