It's just a place holder name as rangers can be used in many different forces ie, rangers of gondor for a minas tirith army, rangers of arnor for an arnor army or blackroot value archers for a fiefdoms army. Rangers of the north and dunedain are single warrior warbands which have to be used if you plan on using a contingent of rangers. The current rule stands for every 4 ranger warriors you must have one ranger of the north or dunedain, but you also must have one hero to lead the warriors. Here's an example:

Warband 1:
Aragorn
12x rangers of arnor
Warband 2:
Ranger of the north
Warband 3:
Ranger of the north
Warband 4:
Ranger of the north

Because you see fielding 12 warriors you must take 3 rangers of the north.

Hope this helps

Yes, Arnor was the Gondor-of-the-north, but less populated. It fragmented into different kingdoms, all of which were eventually destroyed, about 1600 years into the Third Age. The descendants became landless wandering rangers, the Dunedain.

I'm sure if you google Arnor you'll find plenty of sources.

In the game, the Arnor lists represent the kingdom before its destruction by the Witch King, and the Grey Company list represents the leftovers.

As Imladris has said, the models in the 'Rangers of Middle Earth' box are just generic rangers, and are used to respect Rangers of Arnor, Warriors of Blackroot Vale, Ithillien Rangers, etc.
The others belong to the 'Kingdom' of Arnor, the profiles for which can be found in the 'Kingdoms of Men' book. :)

For the most part, Rangers of Ithilien and Arnor look very similar. It's the Archers of Blackroot Vale that have very distinct colors. Blue even, which you almost never see on the other Rangers.
