If you are wanting to submit more than the allocated amount of pictures to the challenge then as long as they are in the form of a compilation of pictures (ie. all one file ) then that is ok. It literally takes me ages to set up the voting when each entry has 10 different images to upload.

Thought that was the idea, thanks for the quick response!
I'll try to remember putting everything in one long image from now on then.

I'll be entering Bill, Bert or Tom depending on which one turns out best.

Ok guys, big question here - what colours should I do my d-d-dragon? Also anyone got any bright ideas for how to make a groovy base for the guy?

Do dark red or dark green! And for the base you could add treasure, dead dwarves(or other people) or skeletons. Maybe even a baby dragon!
Those are my suggestions.
Or paint him like this guy ------> :dmf:

Brilliant Dragon you got there SuicidalMarsbar! It's a Reaper mini, isn't it?

Anyway, here's my proof picture, it seems like I will be entering a competition after all!

And, I've even managed to do some work on the Great Goblin, over the weekend. Here we go with some WIP shots:

I should be able to finish him next weekend, as after that I won't have any more time to work on him.

Good luck to all! :)

Fëanor, have you considered repositioning the arm and hand of the great goblin a bit? He reminds me a bit of Dr. Evil ...

Haha  , well I did consider re-sculpting the arms, legs and head actually. I made the sculpt for a previous One Ring comp, and the end was slightly rushed.
Anyway, I figured it would cost about as much time to redo everything as it would to repair the things I'm not so glad with. It was actually my first full sculpt, and with this month's theme, I figured I might as well paint it (even though I'm not really glad with it). I do plan to make another, similar sculpt of the Great Goblin though! But that doesn't have priority now.

Don't worry, I didn't want you to re-do the sculpt, it's quite nice :) It was just, for the sake of the Dr. Evil joke ^^

I may enter the Goblin King since I have him primed and ready, just for [word deleted] and giggles.

Does a warg count as a monster? I presume not.

Does the White Warg count as a Monster? It is o a 50mm base after all and much bigger than the other Wargs.

Oh, excellent Rognarr, well done: now I can't imagine that figure without a cat on his lap. Fëanor, get some putty mixed, he isn't finished yet after all!

Speaking of finished figures, here's my entry: William the Troll.
Whatever happens after voting, at least I'll come first when it comes to sending in the entry!

Used to be part of Bob Olley's own range (I think), molds were sold to some company that doesn't exist anymore, but the former owner still had some casts left. Upon seeing it, I thought he'd make a great William: he is very big (just over the size of a Mordor Troll), looks relatively human (anatomy, clothing, jewelry) but also pretty primitive and is decorated with bones and various shiney metals, like the stuff found in their larder. And of course, he carries a big bag to capture unfortunate dwarven travellers in. That he looks like a more humanoid version of those typical Scandinavian trolls is a nice bonus, seeing how the Northern mythologies were of course a major source of inspiration for Tolkien. Only small alterations were to shorten the blade and change the pommel and cross guard to make it into a big knife instead of a sword (normal figure: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P_aU0m3ExM0/U ... 000389.JPG).

As for the painting, I gave him a slightly unhealthy skintone (no exposure to sunlight!) and tried to get some variety in there by painting his 'clothing' in various patterns and colours (on top a grey wolf, brown bear as cloak and black bear as tunic - Beorn won't be pleased!), and the same for the bones and horns he wears as decoration - furs and horns painted after examples on pictures. Only thing that doesn't really show in the pictures is that his eyes have a dark red iris, but you can just about make it out from the second angle.

Looking forward to seeing all the other entries!

I've just taken receipt of Bill, Bert and Tom, so I shall be entering one of them at least. Proof picture to follow!

Beautifully painted sir!

This is only a WIP shot but I was hoping for some feedback this far. I was inspired by the Hobbit scene where we see Sauron within the eye. So he's firey robed but his cloak will be shadowy to depict more of how he looks as the shadow form

The idea is very nice, but I would definitely go for more transitions from light to dark, maybe even try some OSL on the armor (like youve done inside of the helmet already)
For a start, you could add a nice red-ish glow to the cloak and go a for a bit brighter yellow (almost white?) within Sauron's flamy appearance... :)

PS.: Oh and maybe you could "highlight" the flamy areas with black or an almost black colour, to give him a darker and more threatening, appearance, like the shadows, seen in the film :)
