So after watching the hobbit - I was left bitterly disappointed smaug was in it for 30 mins and he had 2 legs ( have avoided any spoilers ) and there was little action, I was left wandering if there will be one or two hobbit films left to come. I mean the same film but two parts like Harry potter deathly hallows, because, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know how they will fit the death of smaug once he causes havoc , then the escape of gandalf from dol guldor, and to finish it all of the bofa... So what do you think? I always thought bofa was pre smaug and hobbit but clearly wrong...

It's only one more movie. They'll probably have smaug die within the first 10-15 minutes and then there's really only the assault on Dol Guldor and the battle of 5 armies left so within 3 hours PJ could easily work that

I would be happy for them to do it in just one movie but I don't want them to just pack it full of three different battles and have them take little detail into account

I was a little disappointed with the ending (damn you cliffhanger!), I was expecting either the attack on Dol Guldur or

Smaug's death.
Either one of those events made it into the film, so as I see it, it'll all be in the throw film. This leads me to believe there will be mostly action and battle in the third film, rather than adventure. Not what I'm keen on really, but I'd bet it'll still be epic.

The BoFA was after

Smaug's death.
At least the way I remember in the book.

Anyway, my opinion is it was a good film, but a little disappointing as it just seems a build up to third part and didn't really let off any of the plots steam. I mean as in pivotal or major events.

I think TABA will end with the Battle at Dol Guldur, oddly... Let me explain...

Firstly, it will be the perfect bridge between TABA and LOTR-FOTR. Secondly, it will remind younger audiences that the main enemy in all this is Sauron, although DOS did that well enough by quite literally smashing his fiery image into our retinas during his

battle with Gandalf
.

And if it doesn't end with the White Council vs. Sauron, I think that will take place near the end, perhaps before the journey home for Bilbo, and then after he shuts the door of Bad End and it fades to black, just before the credits it would be brilliant if it faded from black into the darkness of deepest Dol Guldur, and on the ground of one of the lowest dungeons, there was Sauron's gauntlet. I think the very, very last shot would be perfect if it had the gauntlet rattle slightly, and then some ash surrounding it just started to creep together as if to rebuild an arm - echoing the shot in the prologue when Sauron's gauntlet smashed to the ground and the ash disintegrates as Isildur clambers for the ring... Just a thought?

It would be better (IMO) to just end with Bilbo in Rivendell finishing his book and maybe overhearing Elrond and Gandalf discussing Sauron.

Why did so many people want Smaug to die in Film 2? You can't kill of the the actual main antagonist in film 2 of a trilogy. 95% of casual viewers won't watch it after Smaug dies.

He was only in it for about 30 mins anyway - think lotr and at film two so much more went on like helms deep and the capture of orthanc I honestly really expected more rom the hobbit because of newer technology but I will always love my extended lotr more, even the models haven't been as good or excited new players.

I think the audience wanted some form of conclusion, because there really wasn't one in DoS.

Gandalf was captured and locked in a cell, Bolg ran away after beating Legolas up, and Smaug left Erebor to go to Lake-town.
None of those are real conclusions, and it would have been nice for one of them to have been dealt with, preferably Smaug.

Yes and the Ring should have been destroyed in The Two Towers.

No, it would not have been nice to finish of Smaug before the last film.

The Two Towers ended with the defeat of Saruman's forces, and the Ents removing him as a threat. Desolation of Smaug ended with no such resolution, and it could have used some form of conclusion.

Even in your above example, Saruman, who is not the main villain of all LotR did not die. I have no problem with giving some sort of resolution, such as driving Smaug out of Erebor, but killing him off? That would be the worst idea since Lucas said, "I think that Jar-Jar character will be a great addition to Star Wars".

They could've killed of Azog though.

I was expecting something to happen like azog die or even just gandalf escape dol guldur but now we must wait a year with cliff hangers and no "finished business" which I find annoying because in each film there was always something resolved in lotr.

The cliff hanger got everyone stoked for part 3, getting people back to the cinema. If Smaug had died, no one would've gone back for film 3.

Smaug doesn't have to die just a conclusion to something like gandalf escape dol guldor would have done

I really don't have a problem with how it ended myself, I'm just excited for film 3. We can complain or be eager thats our options
