Looks good, the basing and the photos remind very much of DMS's style, I guess you got some hints from him?

You kidding me? I taught that punk everything he knows!

Hahaha, yes indeed, DMS and UKFreddyBear have helped me tremendously over the last 10 months that we have been friends. I was growing tired of the non-descript sand and turf bases, so I started going all DMS with them so to speak. Since I paint for display and not for gaming, base size and height aren't an issue, and just like the Lebowski's rug, the base really ties the mini together, and sometimes you can tell a bit of a story with it (like the broken shields and empty helmet).

Half the fun in painting is learning other peoples techniques and trying to achieve that result yourself, like NMM and OSL. Bizzarwarstar paints some absolutely amazing minis and uses a technique I have never seen employed before, that's one that is on my painting bucket list to attempt. One day I hope to have an NMM dwarf shield after PoW avatar. That thing is absolutely sick!

So attempting to mimic other peoples style is sort of my tip of the hat to those people whose skill I respect and admire.

Another Rohan banner Bearer. I call it Perseverance. Stepping over the Uruk shield to waive the banner and show that Rohan is still there. Beginning to think Rohan is my favorite thing to paint. Even managed to get a little freehand in on this one too!

Here is a darker image. Maybe it looks better?

Looking it that, I thought it was the work of Mr Spectre, but colour me surprised. This is fantastic :yay:

Beautiful work.
I think the Rohan palette is one of the most pleasing to look at as it combines earthy natural colours with some metallic and a few brilliant highlights, and also because it has strong historical inspirations in Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon and Celtic images from what are generally referred to as the Dark Ages.

Gorgeous Rohan models. What colours did you use for the cape? I've never been able to find a good mix of realistic colours for the capes that match the movies. Yours look perfect.

Excellent Bill, very original work. I think the lighter photo works better with this figure.

Lovely work again, both in the miniature/base and painting.

Thanks so much for all the comments guys.

@Batman: I used Castellan Green for the base color, and AP Dark Tone wash for the deep recesses. I then mixed a generic yellow with the green for the first highlight, adding Ushabti Bone for successive highlights.

I went ahead and put it up on CMON. You can vote on it HERE

For those of you who have voted on my minis thank you so much!

HERE is the link to my gallery if you haven't voted and wouldn't mind. haha, three of my top five still need 50 votes to count. doh.

What I like with these is that your capturing 'movie moments' with how you're positioning and basing them.

Looking really nice. Clean, effective colours and good shading.

Been a while since I got any pictures taken.

GBHL unboxing of Bard got me excited to paint him up,so here he is:

Image

I bought an Isengard captain sets because I wanted to paint a banner and was to lazy to dig mine out. This guy was in the way so I painted him first

Image

And finally I had some fun with a Warrior of Rohan. As my WiP suggests, I really enjoy Rohan and I like doing freehand horses, although I hope they look like horses. Anyway, I put him up on CMON. I would appreciate your vote and you can cast one HERE

Image

And many thanks to those of you who have already voted on my stuff. I really appreciate it. The Balrog is at 47 votes...so close hahaha.

3 excellent models. The highlighting on Bard is subtly done. The free hand white hand on the uruk shield looks great, but the Rohan dude is on another level. The jewel stone pops out and the freehand horse on the front and back of the soldier is superbly executed. If there is any flaw to be picked out at all, it is that the top vertical line on the shield looks off centre ever so slightly as it moves from the middle to the rim. But that is a very finicky observation on a lovely looking mini. Top job man!

I love the Rohan models too, even though they are some of the oldest. There are some really great poses in that boxed set, and the horse on the cloak looks fantastic.

You've done a wonderful job on all of these miniatures. Bard especially stands out because of what a good job you've done with a very limited palette of colors.

Thanks for posting these!
