I recently started to painting models from the piles of LotR metal I've been collecting for years. I am building armies for Angmar and Arnor. To get started I've painted a Battle Company for each side...

The Angmar force is led by Zorbag the Widowmaker...

He leads a force of orcs with mixed weapons (based on the Mordor list)...

There are lots more on my blog, including an AAR of my first game... Lots more to come!

Just so you know, if I comment on your blog my name will be Troll of the Trollshaws. Great orcs! Are they from an old kit? I 've seen some of the poses but not all.

They do look a ram shackled bunch, just as you would expect from Orcs.

I love the painting of both your armies. I love the fact your using the old metal orcs I find them much more intresting to look at than the plastics.

Keep up the good work!!

Thanks, guys!

Hill Troll, will has it right... all of these models are metal. I have been buying GW LotR models compulsively since The Fellowship of the Ring set. I have around 1,000 LotR models and most of them are metal minus the plastics that came in the boxed game sets.

Lovely Orcs; they remind me of the first issues of BGiME wherein every single Orc was painted as good as yours.

I love the old metal Mordor Orcs! Always kick myself that I never picked up more than I did...

Yours look really nice. Well, as nice as Orcs would, anyway

Nice work. I like the names you come up with - it certainly adds an enjoyment factor which has been missing for me.

Thanks, guys!

I love coming up with names for my characters and even units. It adds a lot to the narrative (the same ways games with the likes of Aragorn or Frodo might) and after a time these characters develop stories of their own. The deaths if these name characters are rarely permanent (think Frodo vs the Troll in Moria, Gandalf vs the Balrog, or Aragorn disappearing over the cliff in the movie version of TT).

My second orc warband...

With my core troops bulked in I can move on to some of the more exotic stuff on the Angmar list!

Your second warband is perhaps even better than the first 8) . Having so nicely painted models always makes the games more enjoyable.

Your orc faces have a lot of character and diversity in colour - I like that (nothing more depressing than acres of uniform greenskins all of the same colour). There are lots of examples of that diversity in all the Middle-earth movies, though Saruman's Uruk-hai come closer to uniformity, their warpaint made for considerable extra interest.
And a very nice take on the Warg Chieftan!
