@Coenus Scaldingus -- I like the troll/giant model that you've used - much more of a "traditional" troll sculpt compared to the "D&D/Warhammer Monster" look I'm so used to and also distinct from Weta's slightly confused rendition of "Trolls"I imagine that when Tolkien was writing he had something much more like your guy here. The unusual skin colouring works well for this kind of creature of the night, and the muted palette on his furs and outfit make him seem all the more realistic.

@Erunion -- The heavy lining and start contrast between that and his skin gives your guy an almost animated look to him. It's certainly a unique look, and I could see this guy being very effective visually on the tabletop.

@Sithious -- I love this guy - the animal-skin cloak, goblin-shield(?) greaves and chain tabard makes him seem like a leader amongst the Uruk-Hai trolls. The possing makes it easy to imagine him tearing through the unfortunate enemy lines.

@Ukfreddybear -- I really like this guy, and always have since I first saw him. very characterful and a very unique (in a good way) look compared to all of the other Ent and Treeman figures I've seen. I'd have gotten one long ago, but I have a terrible track record when it comes to completing the assembly of multipart metal models. Nonetheless, you've done a great job here, and the eyes have a kind of melancholy to them - great work!

@Cuchulain84 -- Great work on the skintone, and you've managed to make the texture of the skin come out as well. I also like the addition of the tree trunk to the base, which helps to set him at the camfire where the dwarfs met the trolls and the trolls met their end.

@Bofur the Dwarf -- I like your work on Treebeard, and the base stands out nicely. Because he's such a big model, it's kind of hard to make out the detail of his body in most of the shots, unfortunately. I'm going to have to get hold of some of those birch pods!

@Feanor the Mighty Elf -- Nice take on the Goblin King - and much closer to how I visualised him in so many ways to what Weta came up with. His twisted visage makes him fit in well with the rest of the films' aesthetic.

@Mertaal -- I have to say - while the troll himself is painted well, with subtle tonal shifts for areas like his face and nipples, and dirty hands - it's the rest fo the effects all across the model that really make this one for me. The base is absolutely amazing and really brings the entire piece to life. What kind of foliage did you use for it?

@JamesR -- I really like what you've done here - inspired by the Necromancer from DoS, I can only assume. As I mentioned before, my strongest comment on this model will be when I rip off what you've done for my own!

@Scipio.au -- Given how quickly you assembled and painted this mini, He turned out wonderfully! The added vegetation really makes him appear ancient and truly a part of nature. I love it!

@Dead Marsh Spectre -- Really, really nice work on this guy. While the overall model is wonderful, I can't help but to point out a couple of my favourite parts of him - the spinal flames, the whip, the axe, and yes - the base. Just outstanding work!

@Orc-Archer -- As I mentioned with Cuchulain84's Troll above, I really like the way you've made the skin texture on this model stand out. It makes him look rough and dirty - as you'd imagine even a king of goblins to be. I also like the pustules - I often do them in a similar way, and have so since the old Kev Adams Orcs were my mainstay. It works really nicely on this guy!

As for myself, I'm surprised to have gotten any votes, but chuffed that I did manage to snare a few. While I'm happy just to have finished another model who will see the tabletop, I also have to thank so many of you guys for all of the very kind comments.

Now let's see what happens with that final score!

136 votes and it's a tie! Amazing, massive congrats to you both - absolutely cracking challenge and thoroughly deserved. Special congrats to Mertaal for pushing the mighty DMS all the way.

Outstanding entries all round from everyone, this really was an exceptional field and you all deserve a massive round of applause :yay:

No sir. Not in the slightest. Personally I think you're one of the most pleasant users on this site. I was referring to back in the entry thread how once you submitted your finished pictures I said "Challenge accepted" to try and match that level of work lol. But unfortunately I failed this challenge

Ah I see.
Well I think in retrospect a draw was probably the fairest result. Both winning entries were fantastic. Whilst not really my field of expertise, I am pleased my painting levels have improved a lot considering how little I do of it. I thank the 10 people who voted for me.

Brilliant competition and to finish a draw is insane. Congratulations once again to all but a special mention for Mertaal who pushed DMS further than he has been pushed, probably ever.
