These seem to have a lot of base for the size of model, so I was hoping to do something more interesting than usual with the base - creeping over fallen branches, rocks, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions or inspirational pictures they could direct me towards. I actually really like these models, though they are pretty weak in terms of profile.

Cheers.

If you give me some time, I'll post a pic of mine, I have 4 - one with fallen logs/branches & a rock, one with fallen logs/branches and a dead Hunter Orc, one with fallen branches/logs and a dead Wood Elf & one with just fallen logs and branches.

Here, I've included a WIP shot at the end, the others show you what they look like finished.

Hope it helps 8)

Thanks for posting these. They are very impressive.

Are the logs real twigs dried out? Did you make the base and paint the spider separately and then join it on?

The logs are real twigs. I bought a packet of fallen trees/deadwood from HobbyCraft as these twigs tend to look a lot more like small scale logs and branches rather than just twigs, for e.g. the big one on the base w/ the dead Hunter Orc.

I didn't paint the, separately, I painted it all together. If you'll notice, most of the spiders are quite far off the ground which allows for the paintbrush to easy get to the spider's underbelly and the base easily.
If you weren't sure that you'd be able to do it carefully however (a position I myself had been in for years), then I'd recommend doing it separately. Make sure you try out where it all fits on the base before painting if you do this option. The last thing you want is for your beautifully painted spider to not fit on it's beautifully arranged base.

Good luck 8)
