Are these large groups of troops worth the money e.g. bulk discount or just a collection of miniatures grouped together

Also do we think this is the path they will travel down for Battle of the Five armies sell £150-200 groups as well as the individual sets

The prices are exactly the same, unfortunately. I'd have gotten the Defenders of Rohan one if there were even the slightest ($20-30) of discounts.

I know GW isn't good on these sorts of things but they really missed a trick not taking even £10-15 off the price for bulk, I could see them really shifting if they did otherwise why not just buy the guys separately and make it easier on your wallet

I agree. It would be cool, if there was discount of 15-20£ or something like that. Also I could buy Azog's hunters pack if didn't have Azog and Narzug. I don't want to have two of them...

Sell additional Azog and Narzug. Problem solved.

Except it's a lot of work to go to for nothing, he might as well just buy them individually for all the good it'd do. The only advantage these sets seem to provide is a saving on the number of clicks you have to make to order stuff.

I wonder how successful they are, overall. I could imagine that occassionally some do alright (I'm picturing a new army release, with a collection of all the new kits, might do alright), but overall i really have to wonder what the point is, for both us as customers and GW as a business. If they need to shift stock, then a bundle of stuff with even a small (10%?) discount overall would seem more attractive. If i could order £100 worth of Laketowners and get a free captain out of it, then that might tempt me to spend a bit more than i'd planned in the short term for a laketown force, if it works out better for me in the long run.

I recall there being at least one such set that offered a discount, but iirc, it was an attempt to get rid of some of the WFB Storm of Magic scenery. There may have been one or two others that I missed.

The old LOTR mega -force boxes were at significant discounts but that was the last time I saw any significant discounts from GW on LOTR/Hobbit minis

Oh how I wish I forked out for those back in the day. "Nah I wont bother with all that bargain stuff, as I have 1 or 2 of the heroes in that set already"
Same mentality that held me off a lot of BGIME issues.

Anyway on topic, I think it's extremely scabby that there is no discount on these sets. There's hardly any reason to buy them, except to save some quantum "effort". Throw in a rare model, knock a few quid off, whatever.

I've worked in retail for 10 years and rule #1 is that you don't quibble over a few quid if it's a large sale (150.00 or so). Especially if they're buying in bulk. The only difference I can think of is that my employer, while possibly the biggest in it's sector in europe is not a monopoly, and GW effectively is. (You also wouldn't believe the amount of people who stick their necks out for a few quid off really cheap items either mind you)

I also buy a lot of musical gear and again a freebie is taken as a given. If I walk in to a shop with even 300 quid cash to buy a guitar there's no way I wont get a free bag, strap and strings thrown in (10% discount at least).
I just completely fail to see the logic, or how it's sustainable in the future really.

Hopefully GW comes to the same conclusion soon and we'll see some changes
