Yeah I'd follow sidthesloths guide.

The models are quite good, but the colour scheme just makes them seem plain, so its more about how much time you want to put into each one. They can still look great if you follow the film scheme, but you have to work hard to make it smooth.

I don't think you will find a guide better than the one on here, but you should check the Aus FB group for pictures of numenoreans, it was at a fairly reent tournament so you shouldn't have to go back too far. Otherwise, my suggestions are:

NMM would go a long way in making the army great. Due to the dull uniform, the metals really stand out, so making the sword & helm look great will help a lot.
If you aren't going to use NMM, then use a duller metal or at least wash it to subdue some brightness. If you look at the film ambush scene, they aren't as bright (compared to the Last Alliance scenes which have more digital imaging to make them stand out brightly).

Next is to make the skin look great - it will take a long time, but you have to make it so the cheeks stand out as much as they can, quite hard given the small, enclosed size.

Perhaps easier to do, but very important would be to do highlights with the uniform using at least 2 other colours on top of the black, 3 or 4 should get the job done. The white/cream strip at the front near the knees is very important, so paint smoothly there. GL
