Whats your favorite troop type under 20pts?

Guards of the Galadhrim Court, Nuff said. I mean F6 C6 D5 armed with pikes and they can shield. They are a great addition in an elf army. The best part is that you can stick one up against most evil heroes, have him shield and the enemy will be stuck there for a while.

Also, though they are over the limit by a point or two.... Rivendell Knights are the best! Lances F5 no bow limit, too bad they are so points expensive cause these guys can really dish out the damage.

Hunter orcs on fell wargs. No one is safe when my wargs go hunting.

I also love citadel guard...just wish they were better.

Osgiliath veterans. Great looking models with some good stats. They're capable on their own, but Team them up with Boromir or Faramir, and you've got some killers.

Hobbit Shirrif. A 4pt model with a 50% chance of stunning a monster worth 20+ times as much if it manages to win the combat... that's proper fun.

You really like them? Ive used them twice, and I find them so worthless for their point value....their special rule costs them like 3-4 more points I think than a regular warg rider.....

Mahud raider with warspear, I took down a balrog once just by charging it enough, the S4 hit for free, + S4 warrior with +1 to wound, granted they were better back before Mahud were nerfed.
THey still remain the best anti cavalry mounted unit in the game.
THink about it, they charge another cav unit, S4 to the mount, if the horse/warg dies you effectively fight a thrown rider... win!!!

Also consider the ramifications of heroic combat with their mahud king nearby, should they not be able to charge first.

Wow...I never thought of all that.....I was just planning on dumping my whole Mahud force after much consideration...maybe not Ill change my mind.

Guard of the Galadhrim court. can sheild and fight 6/courage 6 for a measly 12 pts. Have great synergy with what ever they support due to the stupidly high fight.

My favourite are Osgiliath veterans as well. We play so many capture objectives or hold a location matches that their body gaurd special rule is great. Also I love the figures and I feel like they always bring a lot more background and theme to every encounter.

My favourites are the half trolls. They can beat almost everything (lead by a mahud king and supported by a shade or a barrow wight) this is my main army combo

High elf warriors with shields. High defence, high fight, high courage, 2 attacks when shielding. 'Nuff said.

Since this popped back up, I might as well answer.

And I would say it was between:

Warriors of Minas Tirith: They do nothing fancy, they do nothing special, but when you need a line held, their high Defence at a fairly cheap cost means they'll hold it. Bolstered by a Hero of some kind, and I find it hard to go wrong with them.

Easterlings: The Evil equivalent of the above, but the ability to use Pikes means it's even easier to shuffle your killing or staying power where you need it.

And it's not official, but I really love the way the Iron Hills warriors (from my BotFA Supplement) play. They are absolutely rock solid in defence, but once you break the formation, you really have to think about who goes where, otherwise they end up rather hugely overpaying for their gear/rules that they can't use on their own. When you have to plan and think like that, it's a great challenge.

And then your opponent fields Morannons or Isengart Uruks...

If you want a line held I'd take dwars with shields and let them shield.

Dwarves are probably the best basic warriors, which is why I hate playing them so much, but my favorite ones that I actually play are either Black Dragon Kataphracts or Morgul Knights. The Kataphracts are pretty awesome, while the Morgul Knights are the same thing with terror and a lance. Pretty awesome combo on Heavy Cav.

Having played and experienced more in the last 9 months give or take, I have new mentions. These are just ones I look at as worth it, not my personal favorites.

Men at Arms of Dol Amroth-Never used, or played against these.....but at under ten points you have pike support.....thats epic. They are pretty much a strength 3 Uruk who have a banner with Imrahil.

Axemen of Lossanarch-Again, at under 10 points, you get spear support/an axe with fight 4. Fiefdoms is wicked.

Rohan Outrider on Horse- Same price as Rohirrim with a battlefield wide standfast, and better to shoot value.

Orc Tracker- For the points of a goblin with shield, you get an orc who can shoot like a man, and can be mounted. Great for objective taking!!

Berserkers- High defense, and massive killing power.

Haradrim- Cheap, and good shooting

Corsair Reavers-Ive finally used a warband of these......theyre some of the hardest troops to beat at a fight in the game especially for so few points. They just lack killing power sometimes(unless you do what Id consider one of the worst offense and put an axe on them)

Black Numenorean-For price of two goblins with shield, you have fight 4, and defense six that can shield. In addition, you re roll 1s to wound.
And terror.

Wood Elf with spear- For 2 points less than two gobs with shield you have a 5 fight support that can shield. Lethal.....

Hobbits-All of the infantry. They are cheaper than all goblins, and the archers are superb.

Ones I use or play against the most:

Mirkwood Rangers-2 attacks, at fight 5. 100% and cloaks....

Ferals-I mentioned them last time. We all know what they do

Hunter Orcs-Same as ferals but weaker fight courage, and defense. But also significantly cheaper.
