Hi and welcome to the June Painting Challenge. This month you have chosen

The ELVEN HAVENS

Rules

If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

This will be a single miniature challenge

1.To complete the challenge an elven themed miniature must be completed by August 31st 2014.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniatures 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of August 31st 2014. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniature off from multiple angles.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

My entry will be Galadriel this month. Better to get started this end of the month this time. I took the photo just a few hours before you set up the thread.

I think I'll enter this again. Here's my proof pic: Elrond, Master of Rivendell will be my entry if I can get it done in time. I'll be painting him in his white garb from RotK. Good luck to all!

Well I've chosen a guy that's popular with the harpers this month. Always loved him as a character but hated his pose (he's just exhausted). I'd be happy with his pose if his left arm was slightly out from his body so a shield could be added to it and make him look stoic. But as he's metal, I'm not even going to try and shave it off and resculpt it.

Hopefully I remember to post the finished piece this time. Last month I had finished Merry and Pippin but was so occupied with other things that I forgot to post...

I am happy to participate in one of your contest, I will also try to share with others if time permits me, but in the meantime here's my piece:

I have already set the basic colors, and started the blue robe that is a good point. The coat is in an advanced stage, from start NMN gold, silver and more.

That looks incredible Bombur77, but i think the tall grass obscures some of the best parts of the robe - some very nice blending there. i must confess, when i saw the first coat of bright yellow on the armour i thought "oh deaaar" but then things turned right around. one of my favourite elves i've ever seen.

Thanks Isilduhrr, the yellow color was a basic and indeed the photo made him more saturated than it was, it was the bubonic brown gw, which in fact is much less flashy.

Here is my finished Elrond:

I would have liked to paint some patterns on the white cloak too, but ran out of time. The model is not on a base because he is on his way to a White Council diorama.

Cracked one out over the weekend to try and improve some techniques. Used the comp as a deadline to spurn me on. Can I submit a pic in the morning as I dont have the light to set up a snap tonight? It's not a winning entry but what the hell.
