Hi all, I need some help to purchase the right clay shapers to make my molding of green stuff more smooth. I have been told that UK freddybear uses these to good affect and I am sure many more use them also.

I want to know what types to buy they have cup chisel, taper point, Flat chisel, Cup round and Angle chisel. I suspect I would buy the taper point but do the others have good uses in the hobby? (Hopefully some of you understand the names of the different types, I have some pictures with me but don't have the time to upload them)

Also what sizes should I get, they have sizes 0-16 (similar to the paint brush sizes) I suspect 0 because of the small miniatures but should I maybe get a 1 and 2 also or something bigger?

I've wondered the same thing, because I can't find them locally and would have to order them.

I can find find them locally with the art store in my city but they have none in stock so I will have to order them also through them. I want to get a good look at some though.

+1 to these comments. If someone could shed some light on these, that would be nice. Nobody locally to me has them so I might just get whatever is suggested.

Everyone suggests size zero (shown). Most brands seem to offer the same set/array of tips.

Hi,

I use Clay Shapers of the Company Royal Sovereign Ltd UK. (Displayed on the picture of Sithious above...)
Until now I've only used Angle Chisel, Flat Chisel and Taper Point in the Sizes 0 and 2. I find the Angle Chisel quite useless because you can do most of the things you could do with it also with the Flat Chisel.

I'd recommend you to buy Flat Chisel and Taper Point in the Sizes 0 & 2 because they are the Allrounders of the Clay Shapers in a bigger and a smaller size.

Cheers,
Bennet

Above is a link to what I got. I think I got it for more like ~$20, you can search around for a better deal. The key points are that they are size 0, and that they are the black (firm) ones. I have used all 5 at different times, though I've used the angled one that looks like an exacto type shape the least, because I find it is not stiff enough for my uses and I just use an exacto blade instead.

Also, I highly recommend these to anyone interested in sculpting. I put off buying them for a long time, but when I finally did they were well worth the price and I understood why everyone urged me to get them.

For the record, I just use the two shapes, Flat chisel and Taper point in size 0. I do however have them in both extra firm, and soft tips.
