Thanks for the kind comments!

I just finished the door, made from cardboard and green stuff:

And I've painted the wall-pieces:

The yellow wall might seem a bit TOO yellow on the pictures... It looks much better live. :)

When I did my yellow work, I added some thin glazes of browns to the tops to create some shading, I also very very lightly drybrushed some very pale yellow onto the mid sections of the walls.

Happy New Year everyone!

It's been a while. Always stuff to do around Christmas and New Years Eve, so I haven't spent much time in the Shire lately... My Bilbo-miniature has started to complain since it's pretty cold outside and he really needs a house! And since New Years Eve is now left behind I'm back in Bag End!

I've almost completed the hill-shapes. Plaster was used for the large areas and then milliput for the parts where I had to be more precise. I still need to add some more milliput, especially on the edges of the model to make it stronger.

Image
Image

It's very difficult to find pictures of Bilbos garden, so I might have to improvise a bit on that one... Bilbos bird house is made from green stuff. The pole it's attached on is not glued in place yet (I will cut it down to an appropriate size when the garden takes shape).

Image
Image

Now I can open and close the door in the fence. The wire-henges works! It might look a bit weird on the picture though (especially the pole on the left), since it's not actually attached yet...

Image
Image

And I can open and close the door to the house. This is done in a much easier way since the henges are hidden inside the house and didn't have to actually look like henges...

And finally, a picture of the whole model so far:

Thanks! I took your advice and it looks much better now (Still a very aggressive yellow on the pictures though... The picture of the whole model has the most reliable colors).

I have changed so many things during the process. So my original measurements isn't the most reliable... But I can make a new drawing based on the finished model when it's done - with correct measurements! ; )

Yes - I have the usual 2mm static grass (The bag on the right)and then some 10-12mm grass on a sheet. I don't know how the sheet will work on this model - Hopefully this long grass will make a nice effect in corners and maybe around the tree, but I think it's a bit too long to be used as basic grass so I've recently bought two bags (Spring and summer) of 6mm static grass. This gives me 3 lengths and a few different colors and I think the 6mm will be a perfect basic grass-length for the hobbits.

Even though I didn't plan on it, I've decided to decorate the inside walls a bit. For now it will be frames around the windows, maybe a wooden floor, just so the inside looks a bit more finished.

Image

I also decided to make the other side of the door:

Image

The garden is now covered with a VERY thin layer of miliput. It's a little stronger now. And the rock tiles are in place. These took a while to do - I wanted them to look different and rough. The same goes for the "wall" along the garden.

Image
Image
Image

Bilbo have these seven sticks stuck into the ground in his garden - I don't know what it is called, but I guess it helps the flowers stay vertical or something like that... Anyway, I made this whatever-it-is with small pieces of steal wire.

Image

Once again a picture of the whole thing... The Scouring Of The Shire-box is seen in the background waiting to be painted (I finally bought it on eBay this december... Perfect timing! I've been searching for an affordable one for a while! :) ).

Very nice. One of the best I have seen. Making so many of the parts and textures with clay/milliput adds a lot. 8) I am looking forward to more photos.

This is an excellent work. I love it.
Can't wait for further updates.

Just one hint about static grass.
If I remember well, I have used 10-12mm lenght on my own hobbit house diorama and final result was ok. If u would like to see it, u may find one photo in my introduction post.

I found it – beautiful work! (Can't wait to paint my own Gandalf in Cart and let him ride to the finished Bag End!)

I don't think the grass looks that long, at least not compared to Gandlaf The Greys Bag End-model ( http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php ... &start=420 ).

And don't get me wrong... I actually really like the 10-12mm grass, it looks great on both models! But both are dioramas and they probably don't have miniatures with bases walking all over them; I need to be able to place my miniatures on top of my Bag End and if the grass is too long I'm afraid they will probably tip over all the time.

I hope the 6mm grass will still look a bit wild, when mixed with the longer 10-12mm here and there. Compared to the images of the Bag End from the movie, this scale should work just fine. And 6mm grass is still pretty long for a tiny Hobbit-miniature. : )

Making a static grass projector is an option you should consider.

What is that?

I'm definitely going to make some Grass tufts.
