Spoiler re: Bard video above

Click to: Show
The context of that scene is that the villagers have just been calling for Alfrid to die. Alfrid has just taken a below the belt impact from Bard's youngest after trying to use her as a human shield. Just prior to this was Bard's return to shore and confirmation among the villagers that he slew Smaug with Alfrid doing his whole "All hail King Bard..." sarcasm routine that we saw a bit of in the last film. Dunno how much of that makes the Theatrical cut.

That one in Dol Guldur is pretty sweet. I've actually found that the appendices bits have been handled quite well IMO but the main storyline of Bilbo and the Dwarves has been ruined slightly for me with far too many additions (or exclusions for that matter) that aren't even in the spirit of the book never mind actually there... I sometimes lament the poor scripting of this trilogy as a whole so far because the casting has been so good for each of the main characters. I just find them let down by a lack of faithfulness to the book... :(

I wasn't a fan neither of including this Dol Goldur parts, but after I saw that trailer I changed my mind... They are going to be probably the best part of the movie, at least for me.

We are not going to have any other movies so good thing we can see this.

Interesting, Blue Dragon!

Bandobras Took, you speak my mind. From what I've seen from DOS and heard from BOTFA so far, I think it's a pity some important things have been changed, left out or things added in. It's not like it will ruin the movie for me, I'm pretty sure I will still enjoy it, but it's still a bit of a let down. And I sometimes miss the more subtle handling from LOTR.
I am however, very happy with the inclusion of the White councils subplot and happy to see Dol Guldur seems to be turning out quite nice.

I didn't want to read it but I did, I really hope the Bolg/Beorn/Legolas stuff isn't true, that would be really irritating. But at least there is the Bard thing.

That Dol Guldur clip is awesome, interesting how much more transparent the Wraiths look in this than in the trailer. Elrond and Saruman did look a little awesome in that too.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised about the signal tower. It's much more believable (surprisingly) than having Gothmog whispering orders to his lieutenant who just screams them out to orcs that have absolutely no way of hearing them.

Gothmog didn't do that. He gave orders to Orc Commanders/Lieutenants riding on Wargs who ran up and down the lines relaying those orders to the rank and file.

Let's review the Battle of Pelennor Fields, shall we? Gothmog mentions how the city is rank with fear, and says to ease their pain. Then, a lieutenant with a skull on it's helmet yells "CATAPULTS!" and suddenly every catapult in the army starts firing. Not to mention all of the speeches where someone somehow was able to communicate an awesome speech to 6 thousand men on a noisy battlefield. This signal tower is much more realistic. Not saying that it's necessary, as it is a fantasy movie, but it is a nice touch.

I assume the wraith that Elrond attacks is Khamul? He is wearing a variant on the Easterling armour!

If we get these Nazgul, awesome!
And Elrond can fight spirits just with his magic Elven Blade.

Only two (maybe three) ringwraiths have names/titles in the actual books: Khamul and The Witch King (Gothmog might be a wraith in the book, but its unlikely). All other names are from third parties. The old Middle Earth roleplaying game invented the backstories for the seven other Nazgul. The SBG invented another seven backstories.

We can call them anything we like :)

I'm not talking about the film itself as in what's on screen. Supplementary material for the films is what I referred to.

Quote:
Riding up and down the regiments were Orc-captains mounted on Wargs; while on these swift creatures they could take their orders from Gothmog [...] and shout them quickly and efficiently to troops

-The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare by Chris Smith, Foreword by Christopher Lee, p. 172

I take the rational explanations for tactics and such from here as they help make more sense of the film. This is why I said what I said. And since this topic is about a film supplement too, I thought its words can be relevant to the discussion.

I'm talking about what's in the movie, which is what we're talking about right now.

The Dol Guldur sequence appeals greatly to me.
I have all the Chronicles books for the first 2 films and the first one for Bot5A will come later this month. They are all superbly illustrated books and give an indication on the amount of effort and care that went into the design of even the smallest bit and pieces.

I bought the BOFA chronicles book.
Nice pics of the wraiths. They were going to give Azog a helmet, too bad they didn't because it looked great. Conversion idea?
