Hey folks,

What is with these little holes/indentations in the new GW bases for the Goblin Town minis? Also with the new cavalry models, like the Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs bases. Not something I am used to in any round bases from GW. I know they're usually to glue a 'tab' at the foot of the model to anchor it to the base but the ones in the Hobbit EFGT set seem useless to me. Also I have seen on some YouTube channels that some guys don't 'fill-in' the holes after basing/flocking.

Do they have some kind of use in the game I am not aware of? If not, I'm just going to flock right over 'em and cover them up.

This is not a complaint about the bases, just an honest question.

Thanks for reading.

If you're talking about the one right next to the slot where a mini goes, I think it's where the bases are attached to a plastic sprue during casting. These points used to be on the side of the base but quite recently they have been moved. Why, I'm not sure but they have. I've noticed that it's a bit of a pain myself.

Yes Lord Hurin, those on the smaller/infantry sized bases. The holes on the cavalry bases (40mm) also, but they are actually functional. Although, I've seen the bases on Youtube with the holes not 'flocked over', open holes. I don't think they serve any purpose in the game though. Thanks for the reply, just an observation about the bases that come with the EFGT set.

Yeah, it must be the new way GW makes their bases.

As for the 40mm bases, at one point all of the LoTR mounts came with a tuft of grass on the sprue that would plug into one of those holes, and the foot of the horse/ warg would go into the other. Riders of Rohan and Warg Riders (LoTR) are the only two I can confirm that would still include that. Many since though, like plastic KoMT and SKoDA are supplied with bases without the holes.
