The 3D technology is new it will only get better. Currently 3d printing is used to make masters for molds. If you just want to use the the 3D figure for gaming purchase the hard material for $15. If I was going to make a mold to produce the dwarf I would have to make a few changes to it. The cost per figure would depend on how many were produced.

$15 is not too much for some custom roleplay figures. I need some female hobbits. Some of the choices are limited but it is fun to play with. I may have overdone the curves but it is a cool option. The tavern girl probably can do without the whip.

Crossing fingers that they still release iron hill dwarfs, no matter what form, in the near or distant future. Dain Ironfoot has captured my imagination from the books a long time ago, so would like to have a miniature of him and his warpig.

Try designing your own.

I heard the detailing on these models aren't quite good quality yet. And the price for customization? Hero forge indeed, because you certainly don't want to get regular regiments from them. I believe Heroforge will improve in quality probably and hopefully in less than a decades time.[/quote]

I don't think it will take decades.

The prototypes/masters were produced with a 3D printer. They will be cast in resin. The Models from https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/80 ... escription are also 3D masters. They will be produced in Hard plastic'

There are lots of choices in Metal
These blend better with my 70's and 80's figures in style. They are the right size to mix

i must be simple as the grim hammers and iron hill dwarves all look alike to me! Paradigm sums up what this hobby used to be about as converting stuff doesnt seem to be the GW way anymore (remember the first rulebooks?). Granted not everybody is able to do conversions but at times over the past 12 years, as long as I have been involved with the hobby, I have seen a lot of stuff that is good and bad in the mini dept. However, thus far, they have released the BOTFA stuff in chronological order, sort of, to the film. Now, correct me if I am wrong, there is also no Ironfoot model released as yet. But we are getting a new white council. The gundabad orcs are also released but no armoured azog. Could there be one more release in this? Bear in mind that the cgi was so altered and merch was pushed back and even cancelled due to it that, as a result, I am not surprised that it has taken an age. Back in 99-00 when the first films were made there was no smartphones or social media that could rival the instant tech fix of gossip that we have now. And when a film maker changes his mind so many times before the release (Yazneg was azog and Gundy General was bolg) how do you cope?

I reckon they will be out and please, by no means take my conversion comment as nasty or as a jibe as that was not my intention and I agree that conversions were easier when you had 20 plus figures in a box. I made thorins company out of rangers and still had half a box left!

Lol! post of the day! But I would say it is the end result, scanned and 3d printed, converted or sculpted. End results are all that matters. A pal of mine informed me my £15 azog was a con as we chatted on facebook whilst he was also enjoying a bottle of wine that cost nearly that much and will end up 'down in the deep of goblin town'. To each man his own!

3D printing, where it is right now, can make the bigger models that don't have tiny details pretty easily, it's the small ones with lots of detail that just don't work.

it depends what you do with them (display, game etc) where you play(gw, club, with mates) and how much beer tokens you want to throw at the hobby. We have to face the realisation that the hobbit films made none of the impact lotr did and it reflects that in GWs attitude. I was chatting today about new releases (i revealed I knew what was being released) and for a major release, the WC box, he is getting one in and is putting that aside for me. Will GW ship more money on a 'display' line? Also, there willbe a time when we are looking second hand and alternate miniatures when support is pulled so for me, I am not beholden to the films imagery and am more than happy to kitbash, sculpt and convert what I want, learn new skills and reconnect with a very relaxing hobby. But I am a painter only.

My heart tells me we will get them

Thread cleaned up of antagonistic and condescending remarks. By all means disagree with each other but keep the personal attacks out of it from here on or there will be repercussions.

You know if you just soak them in hot water for 10 seconds they will fit together like a well tailored suit. It no longer bothers me as it is a simple fix. No worse than removing flash or mould lines. Nobody ever complained about that. Our hobby (this range) has evolved. You either change with it or bail out. No shame in either.

I didn't actually know that's all it would take for such a big section of the mini. I knew spears and swords and the like could be fixed that way.

Hot water? I've read warm water elsewhere. Well if the time ever comes I have to fix warped resin I'll look it up.

Well it doesn't get much thicker than a great beast of gorgoroth, and if youve seen my video on how to fix that then you would know that size matters not when heating resin with hot water. :)

Posted this in my own thread, but I figure it is relevant here.
