What is that?

I'm definitely going to make some Grass tufts.

Search for words "electric fly static grass applicator" and you will see :-)
An easy, self made tool which is very "usable" for applying grass onto dioramas.

Can be made in less than 30 mins.

I should have used the term applicator.

Making a static grass projector is an option you should consider.

Well, I should have figured that out... Static grass applicator, I know that one! In december I saw a video tutorial showing how to make one, but I found a cheap one and decided to buy it, since this probably won't be my last hobbit-hole.

I haven't tried it yet, so I'm still a bit excited (Especially since it's a cheap one):

If you look VERY closely it's actually hiding in the background on the last picture I posted of the whole model ;)

Cool
The other two links have some good tips. I have an old applicator that works on a train transformer.

Just a short update... The walls are paintet and I've glued some transparent plastic sheets on the back to represent the glass in the windows.

The floor is made of balsa wood. I used a sculpting tool to make the lines. The color will probably be adjusted a bit, depending on how it works when the rest of the inside is painted. I know Bilbo doesn't have a wooden floor like this, but it's the easiest way I could make it look real without too many details and after all the outside is first priority.

Image

As you can see the walls are hold in place with needles while the glue dries. I will take a picture of the floor inside Bag End when I can remove them again.

The doors are painted:

The bottom of the tree is sculped directly on the hill.

The rest of the tree has to be removable and so it has to fit into the bottom. I placed some plasticwrap over the bottom-part of the tree and then it kept the two parts from sticking together. I simply removed the plasticwrap when the miliput was dry. The edge still needs a little cleaning though, but it worked very well.

A lot has happened to the inside of Bag End. I didn't plan on making walls inside like this when I started building. It was difficult to add them on this stage, so they're not perfect at all, but it's way better than no inside-decoration at all. :) Most of them are balsawood - I started out with a couple of milliput-pillars, but they didn't look very good, so I decided to use balsawood for the rest.

Perfect or not, I really think the inside adds that little extra depth to the model. When the door is open, you can look inside and see the walls.

And I've finally started painting it!

Actually it just hits me that I forgot to take a picture of the postbox. Well, next time.

I just realized it has been about 4,5 years since I made an updated in this thread... Maybe it's time to let you know that the model is pretty much done! Some of you might have seen it on Instagram ( instagram.com/longbottomleaf ) and now you can watch a full presentation video on YouTube - Enjoy! ^^

Thanks for another LOTR instagram to follow! Nice video and great job on Bag End. Don't worry, terrain projects are never done, always can add vegetation, dry brush something, etc.
