Hey guys.
I'm about to paint Gandalf the White on foot and I'm kinda lost.
Could you please give me some tips or advices?
I like a lot the colour scheme that GW used, but any way you could help me would be very much welcome :)

Many thanks.

The important thing to note is the 'warm' and 'cold' whites. For 'warm' whites, such as the outer robe and the cloak, you want to build up from a cream (or even brown) to almost an ivory shade, whereas for the 'cold' whites (the staff and the bottom layer of clothing, and Shadowfax if you do the mounted version as well) you want to build from a pale grey to a pure white.

This provides contrast and stops the model just looking like a white blob. Ideally, you never want a warm and a warm or a cold and a cold to be touching, so vary the shades as needed. For example, on the GW one, the upper part of his tunic that adjoins with the 'warm' cloak is a 'cold' white, whereas the lower section, adjacent to the 'cold' under-robe, is a 'warm' white.

Hope that helps.

I agree on the warm/cold white. For example on this gandalf I used mostly browns on the wizard and greys on the horse

Must say I prefer that one actually, Gene. The GW scheme has the lower robes in greys too, identical to Shadowfax - which doesn't really look right. Having Gandalf entirely in beige/khaki shades works much better.
