Thanks Mally!

Well, earlier this week I received the best parcel I could receive: A free packet of BeeS Putty. It is amazing, I love it, you should definitely check it out! :D
So, new putty = new project... My very own second age elf warrior!

On the chest plate it is either two swan heads or a harp. The helmet will probably be closed to set him off nicely from the 3rd Age Warriors. What do you guys think? I hope making this a serious project and hopefully doing a troup of them. Would you be interested in casts?

Cheers,
Bennet

Casts, yes please.
I would avoid the swans personally, the harp sounds nice or a star shape ?

Thanks Mally my friend! I decided to cut the breast plate down and add a star instead, fitting for the house of Feanor. I will upload some pictures when I am back in England.

I used my time home to do some painting and terrain making, and tried my first scenic pictures like the guys from jomada. Only the Dunlending with the raised axe is new though... If anybody is interested I can upload the building plan for the building in the back in the next issue of the Skirmisher, detailed views of it will follow.

Looks fantastic! You are a seriously talented guy. I mean that for all your work - it's all of top quality. And I'd be very interested in the building plans if you're willing to share.

Very cool! 8)

We would love to have the plans for the building in the Skirmisher. We always eagerly download the magazine each month and your tutorials are some of our favourites!

Is the magazine available in English? It looks interesting.

Thank you very much for your comments everyone!

I will modify the plans a bit and layout them nicely and then they'll hopefully land in our next issue!

Unfortunately not, we don't have the time, manpower or motivation to do it. We have some English articles though from time to time, for example from Koen aka Feanor, the mighty elf from this forum.

Here are some detail shots of the building, I hope it is alright if I post them here, but there won't be any scenery in at least half a year so I don't think it's worth opening a new thread...

Here is the picture where the colours are closest to reality:

Different angles, the miniature next to it is Wulfgrimm painted by the talented Captain Blake:

The different parts of the house:

A close up of the front, where I added a spare banner of the dunlendings. The freehand didn't succeed the way I wanted it, but considering that I hadn't painted in nearly a year I am still quite happy with it...

And a lighter version of the scenic picture, where the colours are a bit different to reality though.

Bennet

Every time I see your work, I feel like picking some putty and go back to do some sculpting! Every time I actually do start, I feel like banging my head against the nearest wall. Its not as easy as you make it look.
The proportions might be slightly off here and there, but theres some really nice stuff in here. And hey, even professional scultors can come up with 'gems' like the monkey twins or that old ugly Arwen miniature, wich are completely off.

Keep it up, bud!

Thank you very much everybody for your compliments, highly appreciated! 8)

It's a week to late, but here is the building plan for the building!

That's interesting, because after seeing your entry for the painting chalenge (amazing work by the way!) I got very inspired and actually sculpted a shield and a banner! :-D And honestly, what you described is how I feel if I look at your painting...
Haha, the sad thing is that I would be proud of the monkey twins! Could you tell me where you see that the proportions are a bit off? Especially with the elf that would be great, because I could then change it when I work on it again, that would be lovely, thanks!

I found a small bird the other day in the bits box of a friend and immediately used it for an idea I came up with a bit earlier, a base or a mission marker for dunlendings. It is a crow sitting on a horse skull, kind of symbolic for the downfall of Rohan...

ImageImage

I also picked up work on a very old conversion I did, a banner bearer of the men-at-arms of Dol Amroth. The conversion must be nearly a year old, and all I did was adding a banner. I will rework the wing armour because I don't like it anymore, but otherwise it is nearly done.

Image

This miniature is a thanks to Gandlaf for painting my berserker, and because he wanted the banner to be separate I did it:

Comments and Criticism are very welcome!
Thank you very much!

Cheers,
Bennet

Outstanding sculpt. Only thing I could say ti improve the sculpt is the banner although shaped looks a little flat still and the guys feet look too big although it could be a combination of the blu tac holding the model down and the picture.

The aesthetics of the mini certainly work together, and it will look nice painted up, but here are some observations I noticed.

Chainmail - Excellent nice neat rows alternating as they should be, except for the edge which looks perfectly straight. You could improve that by pressing into the edge gently after each link to give the illusion of it being made up of small circles rather than a flat edge.

Head - looks a little small for the figure. It appears you used one of the ebob alternatives which looks good on the smaller plastics (eg warriors of minas tirith) but a little undersized on the metal figures in my opinion.

Knees - Armour looks a little thick here which was probably due to too much putty placed on before shaping. Remember less is more when sculpting. It is much easier to add more putty than it is to take it away.

Banner - Its a fine line between creating realistic folds in a banner and compromising to make it easier to paint and display the emblem. This banner certainly falls into the latter. A piece of cloth that size would realistically have more folds in than two perfectly vertical ones. It would also have to be blowing a gale to have it straight out at 90° from the pole like that without the support of a top cross member. The force from the weight of the flag would be greatest at the top of the pole, and the folds should start from that point moving diagonally down from left to right.

With all that said I do like the mini so dont be discouraged. I will only ever give criticism if it is asked for. It works well overall, but you asked for an honest opinion and as someone who knows a little bit about sculpting I feel qualified enough to give you some feedback. :)

Just goes to show how much you've improved over time, although it still is a very nice figure, and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it painted (even more so because it's done by Mr. the Grey).

Hello everybody,

thank you very much for your honest feedback, I think that is exactly what I needed!
Dave, if anything you are overqualified to give criticism here! I Decided I would try to push my limits on this miniature and get it to a level that would be worth Mally's paining skills, so I scrapped large areas of the miniature that I want to rework, like the head, the wing plate armour, the chainmail at the front, gloves and the kneecaps. I will use your tips here Dave, thank you very much! I redid the banner and am much happier with the result, when actually looking up some pictures I realized how unrealistic the old one was, thank you for the help here, highly appreciated!

What do you think? C&C is again very welcome!
