I prefer the white cloak scheme of the warriors, but you did a great job with the red Guard. The reflecting color in the armor is a nice touch.

ok guys, update time

First off, here's the latest House of Turgon guard:
Image

Image

Holding them like this is the only way I can get good pics lol, one day maybe i'll try to get better lighting and an overall better picture taking setup.

Anyways, here's the latest two swordsmen of Fingolfin's army:

took these in natural lighting, next time, i'll try lighting under the lamp

Blue cloaks look nice. Some good blending on the hood and upper section. The big folds could be a touch darker.

hey guys,

Got some time to try a different setup with lamps. For these pictures, I have one lamp shining on them from above (God's lamp), and another natural lamp from coming from a right angle.

Anyway, here's a group shot, only real update is one more swordsmen has been completed.

Oh, and I re-did fingolfin's face as well.

Well done with these, they look very effective together. Your blending is coming along well, just watch the amount of paint on your brush as it seems you has a tad too much in certain areas like the highlight.
White is a difficult colour to thin, it will always separate. A trick I use is Vallejo Ivory. It does not separate and is so close to white that you cannot tell the difference.

I noticed that as well in the pictures. The white in reality is surprisingly much smoother than what the pics show. Currently, I no longer dread doing white anymore because of the great results I have been getting with my current "technique."
-I base the area with Vallejo Intermediate Grey(I think that's the name)
-I then shade with Codex Grey and then Adeptus Grey
-To highlight, I simply add Pure white to the base coat mix until I get close to pure white.

That's really it.

The blue on the other hand is a bit splochy in areas. That's from a combo of laziness and not actually noticing the splochiness until now.

Thanks for the fb G-Dalf

(that's what they call you on the streets)

Very nicely painted Feanor, and I like the colour scheme, it's different. You should probably change the title of the thread though, as it says 2011.

hey guys, so I've come up to my first archer for these high elves.

Any color suggestions for the bow quiver for these archers?

Ok, I'm not sure if it's just me, but the WIP title for this tread still says "Feanorthenoldor's Elven Army (1/11/11)."

I don't know why this is difficult for me, but where exactly do I go to change the title guys? haha

Ok guys, so I'm going to be giving a synopsis and summary of what I ultimately want my First age themed Elven army to look like, troop selection, heroes and all.

All of the pics below are mainly all mini's that need to be stripped and prepared to be painted.

Also, please bear with my rambling, haha.

1. The primary leader of my army will be Fingolfin. This figure is actually complete, as you can see in my WIP.
- His troops will consist of GW's High elves
Image

2. Fingon, Fingolfin's son, will be proxied by the Elladan model on horseback.
-His company will consist of GW's Rivendell Knight's.
-Gwindor, an important character in the Silmarillion, will be proxied by a simple Elf captain of the Rivendell Knights set. He will be next to Fingon.
-no pictures because I still need to assemble them.

3. For the Last Alliance models of Elrond and Gil-Galad, I'm still not 100% sure what I am going to do with them. I think I will use them both as simple High elf captain proxies.
-@DMS or ukfreddybear, didn't you guys do a converted mounted Gil-Galad conversion? That's something I may be interested in as it could go as a nice addition with Fingon's company, since Gil-Galad is fingon's son.

Now, here comes the juicy part. The force of Gondolin.

4. Turgon, the other son of Fingolfin will obviously lead this force.
-I will be using GW's Rumil as the proxy for him, with the GOTGC as his Guards.
-Elenmakil, a higher ranking guard in this house will be proxied using the Haldir model.
Image

Within my Gondolin force, I will be including many of the leaders of the various houses within this realm. Much of my color scheme inspiration and ideas will be coming from the two links below:
http://shyangell.deviantart.com/art/The ... -307522956
http://aglargon.deviantart.com/art/Twel ... -507040894

-Here is a pic for the main army of Gondolin.
Image

-the little pieces of paper in front of the models are labels for some of the leaders of the Houses of Gondolin. They include: Salgant(House of the Harp), Egalmoth(House of the Heavenly Arch), Galdor(House of the Tree), Rog(House of the Hammer of Wrath), and Penlod(Houses of the Pillar and Tower of Snow).

Image

-The archers will be lead by Duilin(House of the Swallow).

-GW's Galadhrim Knights will be proxies for Glorifindel's company. I will be using GW's mounted Glorifindel for him obviously. Glorfindel was the leader of the House of the Golden Flower.
Image

-Ecthelion, leader of the House of the Fountain will be proxied by GW's Mirkwood captain(BOFA). I will be using GW's Mirkwood guards for these proxies.

Finally, the last smaller faction will be lead by Finrod Felagund, Lord of Nargothrond.
-I haven't given too much thought for this faction, but I kind of want to use Thunderbolt miniatures as the proxies for this force. I will see though.

Anyways, I think that pretty much sums up all of my ideas. This will be a project I will be working on for a very loooonng time. Reason being is because I am a slow painter and second, school is obviously taking up much of my time.

Thank you guys for reading through this, and please comment on what you guys think of all of this craziness.

Feanorthenoldor.

I love the level of detail at which you are applying to this project.

for Finrod Felagund I would make sure to greenstuff or somehow represent that he has his necklace. Maybe even mix a dwarf or something into his company.

thanks generalripphook.

And yes, I'll keep your suggestion in mind when I get to that particular faction.

The only thing is, It will probably be in 10 years time at the speed I paint haha.

little update guys, been working on some different color scheme's, trying new stuff out and seeing how I like them.

For the blue side, I was going for a darker blue compared to the blue I used for Fingolfin's noldor. I think i'm going to do this for Fingon's cavalry company.

For the red, I literally just painted that up quickly in a half hour ago. I wanted a red that stood out more and had more "color depth" than the red I used on Turgon's guard (Guard of the Galadhrim Court guy).

For the red, I think I need to use the mid highlights a little bit more, to take out the heavy purple shades. I'll work on it. I quite like how it stand out though to be honest.

Anyways, tell me what you guys think. I may use this red as my main Gondolin cape color, not sure, we shallll seeee.

Color recipe for the blue:
-base with 1:1 ratio of Fenris Grey: Vallejo Royal Blue
-shade with diluted black, slightly diluted
-highlight:
-1st: 1:2 Fenris:Royal Blue
-2nd: Royal Blue
-3rd: Royal Blue with touch of Pale Grey Blue
-4th: Another touch of Pale Grey Blue with previous mixture

Color recipe for the red:
-base coat: 2:1 Liche Purple: Vallejo Red (not sure the specific name)
-shade with Necron Blue
-highlight:
-1st: 1:1 Liche Purple: Vallejo Red
-2nd: add more Vallejo red into 1st highlight mixture
-3rd: Straight Vallejo red now
-4th: Start adding in a little bit of GW's sunburst yellow (will get an orange color)
-5th: edge highlight with even more yellow from highlight 4

The red armour is stunning, I like it a lot. Will be interesting to see how if looks together with the rest of colours on the model.
