thanks! I'm trying out different color types of NMM right now, looking forward to see how they come out.

Red armour looks good. To improve virtually remove the orange with a red glaze and reduce the pure white to a spot highlight as its a curved surface. If flat then I would have a longer highlight. The black looks nice and I think you can extend this to run on the underside of each feather of armour.
Look at the below, I know it's gold NMM but you can see how the shading works.

Look here how AndyG tackles red armour and the lack of orange. By the way he is a slayer sword winner so he knows his stuff.

I wasn't sure how to highlight curved surfaces. From your work, i'm guessing I should use white as a "dot" highlight, and use the non-pure white highlights running along the curved surface?

For the shading, I think I will mix up where the highlights will go. For figures like your banner bearer, as they are simply standing, I will go for a highlight in the middle of the curved armor plate, but for figures leaning forward and seeming like they are moving, I might use what I did for that.

Anyways, just did some silver NMM, gonna be trying out a bunch of different colors and schemes. Then, when I experience painting a bunch of them, I'll start to pick out new color schemes for my elves.

NMM steel recipe
Vallejo neutral grey base washed with Army painter dark tone then reapply the grey then highlite 4;1 grey/ white then 3;1 grey white then 2;1 grey white 1;1 grey white 1;2 grey white 1;3 grey white 1;4 grey white. Then dot pure white.
And how it can look

sweet, will try it out.

Gonna really test my NMM skills with a White Armor. Already tried a little with one color scheme, but found the result to be a little bit bland.

Update comin soon

ok, did gold this time. I forgot how difficult NMM gold is. Finally figured out that a combination of feathering for the highlights and glazing for the shadows is best for me.

My biggest problem, and I think for most people attempting NMM gold is finding where the contrast needs to be along with the highlights.

For this guy, I think that I needed to push the contrast a little bit more, meaning, I should have had less highlight compared to contrast on each piece of armor. Hopefully that makes sense.

Anyways, tell me what you think, especially you, Gandalf lol

Your right, move you mid tones along and go dark I the shadow, all the way to black. This is the same design as I did with my NMM gold so heck mine for reference.

Your blending is looking excellent

thanks for the kind words guys.

Here is my latest attempt at NMM Gold.

Much happier at this one. Contrast between light and dark is much better imo.

Much better contrast, go darker and try some dark Flesh toward the shadow. The white spots are good but for me in the wrong place. They should be sat on the top of each feather to represent a zenithal light, unless of course the light is from below i.e. reflection.
Your blending is spot on and working a treat.

thanks guys, for shadowing, I actually did use a mix of dark flesh, purple and black. I probably just needed to push the contrast a tad more, but not worried about it too much.

For the highlighting, I agree Gandalf. I think that my main problem that I am working on is the actual realization where highlights go on armor. This goes with different areas and figures as well. For NMM, I think this is the hardest part, one can know how to blend colors beautifully, but if they are not able to place the highlights correctly, the NMM won't look convincing. This is the main thing i'm working on.

I'll be taking some pics of a blue NMM I did last night.

If you look at the work of the gold NMM God Tommie Soule then it may help with light placement. I know from others who have been on his course that he regards this areas the most important for NMM.
You are doing great though, blending is excellent and just a few tweets and you will be hitting this big time.

Here we go, as said before, just trying out a bunch of different color schemes for both armor and cloth. I am compiling the different color recipes together in one document, and will pick and choose the color schemes to give them to the various elven factions I will have. Of course, basing the colors off of other color schemes by other drawings.

Here is some red cloth, not sure if I like the "orangy" highlight look. Will try out other red schemes.

This next one is a bluish NMM. I quite like how this one came out. I'll add it to the list lol

For this one, I took it upon myself to spend 2 hours to complete all of the armor here. I have mixed feelings about this one, not sure if I will go on to use this for one of the factions. We shall see.

Nice work again. I prefer the first blue (darker blue). The second is a little bright for my liking but thats just personal preference, nothing wrong with the paint job.

yeah, the blue doesn't really make sense for a silmarillion themed army as well.

Here's a different looking silverish NMM armor.

Here's a treat for you guys. (I hope)

Took me around 3 hours to complete the armor, and tbh, I am pleased with the result. I will painting the rest of the fig these next few days.

Wow, tons of work since I last got on here, you've been busy! I like the last turquoise/silver armour you've done, it's really cool :D . I also prefer the first darker blue armour you did. Your blending is getting very smooth, keep up the great work!
